Yeah, so don't be an idiot. Canelo's Mexican (automatic built in fan base) and has been aggressively groomed and marketed by one of the most famous boxers of all time in ODLH... Golovkin's Eastern European, had no built-in fan base, and everything that is happening now was built off of his KO streak.

    Thanks.

I'm not blaming Ward by the way.

Neither team were keen on a 2013 meeting without a build-up (fair enough, right, even Ward wanted a build-up at 175 lb before facing Kovalev) and then Ward was out of the ring with promotional problems in 2014 and half 2015. But the evidence is still that Golovkin was willing to fight Ward. He said so explicitly several times, the meeting in the HBO offices, where Ward said no, has never been denied by HBO or Ward. HBO also asked Golovkin whether he would be willing to fight Ward and they said yes at that time (2012).

Here's Andre Ward telling Golovkin in 2013 to establish himself at MW first and then fight him:

Andre Ward was able to witness
    This content is protected
first-hand this past Saturday as Ward was a member of the broadcast team in place of the absent Roy Jones Jr. Afterwards, Ward was able to share his thought on Golovkin and the potential of a fight between himself and the rising middleweight contender.

Here is what he had to say, via (the scene):

"Golovkin is a strong kid, " Ward said. "Physically, he looks like he hits pretty hard, he's got some heavy hands. He looks like he's getting a push from media and fans. I think he's got potential, but I think he's got work to do. He's gotta beat some upper-echelon guys.

"Right now, it doesn't look like those guys want to fight him, so it's not his fault. But I definitely feel like that could be a big fight (between he and Golovkin) down the road."

Both this and the article you posted are clear - the two sides had interest in fighting each other eventually but it was never going to come off straightaway - neither side wanted it.

To try to blame Golovkin, you have to ignore what Ward said above, and what Ward said at the HBO offices. Not that I am blaming him for it, I just don't think either should be blamed.

I didn't say that "Canelo sells PPVs because he's Mexican", only that it was one major factor. If Canelo was from EE I suggest his fanbase would be much smaller. Otherwise I agree with a lot of what you said there.

When in the history of boxing has the defending champion with three belts been given the smaller side of purse by far? This is a unique situation. Before the details were announced all reasonable experts agreed that GGG should get somewhere between 20%-40%. The current deal appears to be along those lines, on Twitter the estimates are 25% - 33%, so it is not unreasonable.

GGG was not unreasonable in the past about his demands either. He gave Lemiuex a 43% split, Jacobs 42%. Eddie Hearn also said that Golovkin was very easy to deal with when making the Brook fight. Everyone who works with K2 says they are not difficult to deal with.

That's not what ODLH said. "The GGG side is such a pleasure to work with." -> that's incompatible with the unwilling-to-compromise idea you have of Golovkin.

Even Ward himself said in 2013 that Golovkin's lack of good opponents was not his fault. Why then do some Ward fans bash Golovkin all the time?

It's been fun reading this--but I still dont get why this even matters. Supposedly it was great business for Canelo to fight no one since beating Cotto and give up his belt instead of fight his mandatory, but GGG negotiating for a better deal than a flat 10 mil means he isnt confident and makes him difficult to deal with unless all of his demands are met.

And I say that ADMITTING Canelo is THE biggest star in boxing now. He is the biggest draw. No debate.
But he could have fought anyone for his first title defense--but instead he chose Khan--and easy money fight. He then could have fought ANYONE but instead he chose Smith, a meaningless title fight. Then he chose JCjr--nothin but a huge money grab fight against a fighter that has done nothing in about 5 years. All those fights were huge and most likely drew huge money. But In those 3 fights, Canelo could have done quite a bit more to get better fighters in the ring.

Meanwhile--2 of GGG's last 4 opponents have been top 5 ranked MWs. He took a replacement fight with a good and game WW. And Wade--which I believe was a mandatory at the time.

The difference is Canelo has been in the driver's seat since Cotto. And he took 3 fluff fights.

According to Isal the compulsive liar, the crazy dick rider GGG agreeing to 75\25 split in Canelo's favour, agreeing to do his ring walk 2nd, agreeing to wait for the fight for over a year, agreeing to give up on his opourtunity to become undisputed and have a home coming bout in a big event is him being Impossible to deal with. Interesting Point of view, I guess.

Isal doesn't deal with reality very well. He's already proven that he will say absolutely anything to defend his 'side', regardless of the truth.

Dude, I just highlighted what Tom Loeffler said regarding Ward getting the chance to fight Golovkin.. I'll paraphrase: "We are not interested, but if we ever are interested it will be Abel's and Golovkin's decision to make". How clearer can that get? He also said that Golovkin was willing to fight at 154 if it was Canelo or Mayweather, and at 168 is the fight made sense.

Golovkin did not want to fight Canelo at 155, and he did not want to fight Ward at 168.

The belts are almost irrelevant. For one the sanctioning orgs are so corrupt, secondly the belts don't define these fighters, and third those rules do not apply to the cash cow, never have.

Hopkins was the unified, lineal, undisputed MW champion, he got paid 9.4 million to fight Oscar while Oscar probably got close to 40 million.
Canelo Alvarez was the unified JrMW champion when he fought Mayweather and got a 5 or 6 million dollar payday while Floyd got abouy 40 million.

GGG is fortunate GBP has a reputation of paying fighters a more than fair amount because any other organization would not have given GGG what he was asking for.

GGG's team said that they were NOT interested in fighting Ward in 2013, and they even said that the fight could be a possibility in 2015 if it made sense. Well when you consider who GGG fought in 2017, it would have made more than sense to ask for the fight in 2015.

Now you're calling me a liar, even though I'm quoting from direct sources..LOL. You're a funny kid.

GGG didn't agree to 25/75, he demanded 15 million w/PPV upside.

You do realize that Golovkin used the same excuse to DUCK Ward in 2013 when he said that he would fight Ward when it made more economic sense. Difference is that Canelo actually keep true to his word and challenged GGG, while GGG avoided Ward at all costs. Its all documented.

For 15 million follars + PPV, GGG is lucky that all CAnelo wanted was to walk in second, for that much money I'm sure GGG would have agreed to Carry Canelo to the ring on his back.

The fight is made, and I credit the fighter who always finds a way to get the fights made, not so much the fighter who always has a reason why he can't fight a credible opponent.

I can tell you don't follow boxing very closely.

GGG is fortunate GBP didn't walk away, GBP make the fights fans want to see, and despite 15 mil + PPV being a ridiculous amount of money for someone like GGG, they were willing to give him is biggest payday possibly FIVE FOLD. They gave Cotto his biggest payday, its how they roll.

Clearly Canelo was targeting the British audience, and since when is becoming a 3 time world champion meaningless? lol t was a very smart move as holding a belt gives him leeway when moving to the next division, he could have positioned himself to be Saunders mandatory holding the JrMW title. I'm not sure you understand this.

The JCCJr fight was something his most loyal fanbase had been craving for at least 5 years. It was a fight that was 5 years in the making, and why not use JCCjr to get a feel of the MW division?

If anyone deserved a couple easy fights it is Canelo not GGG who's entire resume is a big fluff.

Where is the direct quote of this 8 mill offer at 155? It doesn't exist, you pulled it out of your ass. So yes, you are a liar.

GGG agrees to a deal, Oscar says that Golovkin side is easy to deal with. Which means, he accepted the fight on Oscar's terms without dragging it down. I don't know how Someone can be thick enough to not get that, but maybe It takes a blind nuthugger like you.

Ward situation is irrelevant here. Yes, either it was GGG or his management, they were reluctant to take that fight. I have no problem admitting this because I'm not an insane dick rider like you.

You don't credit the fighter who always finds a way to get the fights made, you exclusively credit the Mexican star and **** on thier rivals. And you don't hesitate to lie your ass off and make **** up out of thin air to do so. We see The very example in this thread: You keep going on about how Impossible GGG was being and the fight is only happening because of Canelo when we gave ODLH, the Man who was directly involved in the negotiations saying that GGG's camp was very easy to deal with, that they easily agreed on the terms. So yes, according to GBP's boss himself, you are lying and talking Out of your ass. Just like you were when you Said the fight hasn't happened so far because Golovkin wouldn't agree to terms and the catchweight when we had Canelo saying that weight wasn't the issue. So according to Canelo himself also, you are a liar.

But since you're so certain that Golovkin always has a reason why he can't fight a credible opponent, why don't you name one unified, dominant champion who gave his mandatory %43 split. I'll wait.

I dont follow it near as much as I used to--that amount is true--
Why pay GGG? Well, for starters there is no one left at MW except GGG leftovers. 2 of the top guys are guys GGG already beat. Would not be a good look to fight one of them.

Haven't you said earlier in this post the belts were meaningless? The fight with Smith was a farce and a back step. He was chased out of the MW division after giving up his belts. There were other fights to be made.

Again dude--I dont doubt the JCJr fight did well. Everyone made a huge amount of money watching a weight drained punching bag walk around for 12 rounds. I am sure everyone felt they got their money's worth from that fight. Here's an idea, why not use a REAL ranked MW to get an idea for the MW division?

Again--all these were probably "great business moves" on the part of Canelo/GB. I am sure they made out. My position is it was just a "great business move" on the part of GGG/K2 to negotiate a better deal then the flat 10 mil. But you dont want to admit that. Sure GB could have walked away. But they didnt. Maybe it's because GB has been shooting his mouth off for the last year about this fight being made now. And to NOT sign the fight over a few million would make them look like punks. Maybe K2 was banking on GB having to back up that talk so he went for a better deal. If he doesnt ask the answer is "no" anyway right?

And how did he "deserve" easy fights? I get it, the kid fought his way up and earned his respect. I actually liked him up until the Cotto fight and rooted for him against Floyd. I lost all respect for him after the whole Khan episode.

GGG's resume is what it is. He has fought the best at his weight willing to get in the ring with him. Beating 2 of the top ranked MW's in the world in your last 4 fights isnt that bad.

All of this now is just arguing back and forth from the fans perspective. As someone else said earlier--I just hope it's a fair, tough fight. No controversy. I'm betting that won't happen though.

Factually incorrect and I don't even have to go back 12 months

    Kovalev= $2 mill (28.5%) Ward= $5 mill (71.5%)

Krusher was WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion

Here's an idea...maybe since we have GB on record saying how smooth the deal went, maybe GGG didn't demand it at all.

Maybe..just maybe..since GB wants to put on big fights as has been noted, maybe GB boy offered the 15+ but Canelo get the ring walk preference and rematch clause. But GGG does not get the standard champ rematxh clause.

But of course this removes any fault of GGG/K2 being difficult to work with.
