Sergey Kovalev Vs. Sullivan Barrera: Who Wins And How?!

Barrera wins. Kovalev might never recover mentally, same as Szpilka now. The Kownacki fight was his last chance to go back. Not saying Kovalev is the worse boxer, but Barrera will be very motivated while Kovalev will be under extreme pressure.

 

Great fight that is apparently likely. Before the Ward loss I'd say clearly Kovalev, but we have to wonder about his confidence and motivation now. The worst scenario is Kovalev isn't as reactive, is gun shy, has trouble getting off, and doesn't punch with his usual conviction and snap. I'm not predicting that, and I'll take even an 80% Kovalev over Barrera. He should be able to outjab and control Barrera on the outside, land straight shots on him, and combos as he comes in. And Barrera won't be landing the looping rights and uppercuts he did against Smith. And Barrera's chin won't stand up to Kovalev's power. Nor is he a runner or spoiler, he'll be there for a mid-ring boxing match. Will be interesting and pretty even most of the way, but Kovalev takes it.

 

With all the turmoil in Krusher's camp and the way Ward II ended, combined with Sullivan's momentum, this would be a much closer fight than I'd have thought a year ago. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Barrera won at this point.

 

Kovalev will win, Barrera is too slow and he won't like Kovalev's power either. It may only be a 60% Kovalev but that should be enough to get the job done.

Now if it was against Gvozdyk or Beterbiev, that would be different ...

 

Kovalev by knockout................Barrera won't have Tony Weeks, the judges and referee to protect him unless SOB tells them to............

 

Kovalev needs to get his * together and resolve all the problems with trainers, his motivation, his physical conditioning prior to taking this fight. But skillwise, Kovalev should KO Barrera, and rather sooner than later. Barrera doesn't have the defensive skills to neutralize Kovalev creative offensive game, and he went down in 3 out of 4 his latest fights.

 

Kovalev's confidence might have taken a hit but I still favor him.

Barrera's gotten dropped in almost every fight I've seen him in. I think when Kovalev drops him, he won't let him off the hook. I wouldn't totally count Barrera out though I think he has as good a shot as he'd ever have, catching Kovalev coming off a TKO loss.

 

Kovalev doesn't have a trainer or a strength and conditioning coach lol

 

I think Sergey will come back motivated and strong. He should get Barrera out of there in 6-7.

Ward is way faster than Barrera and it was Wards speed that gave Kov problems

 

I hope so but how motivated would you be considering how you were treated by the sport in your last two fights? hard to stay motivated when you know the deck will be stacked against you.
