He's lost all his big , meaningful fights and was never the best fighter in any of his divisions, besides MAYBE 130. Who did he beat for his titles? Here's who 130 lbs. Vicente Rodriguez - who? 135 lbs. Antonio Demarco - His best win, even then Demarco loses to every top fighter. 147 lbs. Paulie Malignaggi - Haha. He beat Malignaggi inbetween Malignaggi get stomped by Hatton, Khan and then Porter.. by SD. Worst champ at 147 by far. 140 lbs. Ashley Theopane - Wow! nothing more needs to be said. Broner is rank average. Not a 'waste of talent'. No where near the talent of someone like a Zab Judah.
Judah was a Glass Jawed fighter with no heart and basically zero Ring IQ. I just can't get the image of Broner literally turning his back and running in the Maidana fight. Broner has also been matched very carefully since that fight. At least Judah was fighting top fighters.
I don't know Ricky 'Three weight world champ' Burns is prob a more hollow achievement. It really is remarkable how someone like the Rickster - who by all accounts is a lovely bloke - managed to win major titles in three weight classes. One whilst being totally shot.
4 titles is usually impressive. It's almost always a huge achievement. But then when you realize that how weak the competition was in Broner's case it devalues his achievement.
Good fighter but way overrated. Beat an Argentine street vendor Vicente Martin Rodriguez to win his world title at 130. Rodriguez was stopped in 3 rounds a few fights later by a 22-19-2 tomato can (now 28-27-3) Won his world title at 135 against DeMarco which was a good win Won his title at 147 against a past it cotton bud fists Paulie who himself had won it against a very poor champion from Ukraine. And Paulie should really have lost the belt in his previous fight (his first defence) after Cano beat his ass. And won his fourth (at 140) against Allakhverdiev who hadn't fought in year and a half. And then we have him missing weight for numerous fights and getting his hand raised in a number of fights many felt should've gone against him. As soon as he moved up in weight and started facing opponents his own size or bigger instead of leprechauns and munchkins he got exposed. Many feel Mexican leprechaun Ponce De Leon and Fernando Quintero had already beat and exposed him down at the lower weights too.
Ricky Burns as a 1 weight World Champion was enough of a joke but as a 3 weight champion nothing compares to that
Zab has some flaws, but he fought the best and was always dangerous for the first 6 rounds...unless you count the KT fight. Lol
