One shouldn't flash a championship belt if you choose to fight another champion's leftovers. Leftovers that he utterly destroyed.

"But he is too young and green for Loma."

That excuse works until you start calling yourself a champion. If not ready, just politely stfu about being a champ.

Where the **** did you pull that out of?
And once again, its a difference of only four pounds.

I didn't think it was a particularly good fight when Lomachenko fought him either, but I've been told all the time how it was a super impressive victory and that Loma deserved Fighter of the Year for it.

Well if you thought if it wasn't a good fight a year ago then surely you think it's a **** fight right now after another year passed by and he's been KO'd?

It just seems to me a whole lot of people who praised Martinez as a tough challenge for Lomachenko or begrudgingly accepted that fight at worst now want to brandish the pitchforks (and there's a similar acceptance at the moment for the even more unqualified Marriaga). Salido was the clear target for Davis but he's injured and it's not like there's a whole lot of depth in this division.

In an ideal world I agree. But being realistic, it could be much worse and wasn't going to be any better. Are you guys also forgetting the card it's on? It's Gervonta's third title fight in less than 8 months. Haha

He lost to Lomachenko. Yeah, that makes him a bum.

Damaged goods relative to his career to this point, I'll give you. He was before he held his own with Salido. There's an example of someone who was damaged goods and still upset the apple cart. Shouldn't make assumptions. Fights are earned and deserved praise based on merit. Roman is a 4 time 130 titlist. A mainstay of the divisions top rankings for years. One blowout to Loma and a year off makes him not a credible opponent? You're clowning.

It's as good as it was gonna get. Lots of rose tinted glasses wearers in this thread, expecting him to what, fight Lomachenko? Do ya'll follow boxing at all? Learn anything? Notice some trends?

Marriaga is a crap fight too but that's all Loma could get and you know that.

I missed the injury statement from Salido though. I'm sure Floyd could have gotten someone better than Martinez for this mega PPV event.

Martinez hasn't fought since the Lomachenko loss. At 34 years of age, taking this long off from a brutal KO loss, he's done. A gimme fight for Davis, who will continue to duck Lomachenko.

I actually didn't have a problem with this fight given the short notice and circumstances. It's supposed to be a showcase fight on a huge platform, so they needed someone who Tank could look good against as seen from the eyes of a bunch of casuals. Roman brings an ideal blend of those qualities to the table.

That's not a bad way to build a guy up.

Whoever promotes martinez must really dislike the guy, putting him in with Lomachenko and now Davis. Give the kid a ****ing break.

Wonder why the guys on here who said Lomachenko should cave into Salidos demands, and criticized Marriaga as an opponent aren't up in arms over this?

Where did I pull that out of? I didn't pull it out of anywhere them's the words of legendary trainer and fistic sage/philosopher Virgil Hunter who is only the trainer of the pound for pound king Andre Michael Ward who hasn't lost a fight since he was 12 weeks old. My boy Dre will endorse it too.
