Danny Green suffered broken ribs in the opening round against Shane Cameron. The ribs had being previously injured in sparring preparing for the fight. Danny went on to win a 12 round decision
the shot GGG hit Matthew Macklin with is probably the lead of any highlight reel on KO body punches (except i don't like to watch it). it was a GGG left hand MM made a loud groan and just dropped like a tree--in the fetal position with his elbows pulled in tight to his ribs stayed down for 15 minutes ref never even started a count but went straight down to MM and took out his mouthpiece and called his corner over i don't claim that's the first time it's ever happened but i had never seen anything like that before or since--not in a fight between two elite-level fighters in an interview a couple of years after, Mac the Knife (who i believe is a promoter now) said that it was the hardest he's ever been hit and the blow broke two of his ribs (didn't know about the second actually--ie, GG)
That's my favourite one-punch bodyshot knockout. Absolutely perfect. A lot of times, a shot to the liver or to the fake ribs does as much damage. Duran and JCC shortened some careers with their body work.
I remember McLellan completely destroying a couple of guys with body-shots (Bell and Williamson maybe?), GGG v Macklin, Cooney v Lyle, Gatti v Dorin and Ward v Sanchez are all great ko's. I don't know if ribs were broken but every guy on the receiving end looked like they'd been shot and were writhing in agony.
It was a nasty shot. It didn't even look like GGG put everything he had on in but Macklin went down like a horse had kicked him in his ribs and he was writhing around on the canvas in utter agony. Yes Macklin said he cracked two of his ribs with that shot. People forget what a vicious body puncher Ricky Hatton was. His left hook to the body was a real heavy thumping shot and he dropped and stopped a lot of his opponents with it. You can see the agony etched across the faces of his victims of that shot. 15:18 This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected GGG would be breaking even more ribs in the gym if not for many of his sparring partners having to wear body protectors.
