Lomachenko looked impressive as usual....BUT he was TOO EAGER to 'put on a show' to the new ESPN casuals. Loma immediately went into toying with Marriaga, barely taking the time to solely figure him out because he didn't want to look boring. Marriaga was landing a few very awkward punches (with no great pop on them) - this is something a Mikey Garcia doesn't do. Lomachenko actually marks up easily btw, he was even marked up against some of the lesser competition he destroyed. Marriaga ended up having fits whenever Loma feinted and resorted to fighting in order to survive. It wouldn't have served Loma's 'casual appeal' to just go in there, make it a boring affair to figure out Marriaga sooner. The bottom line is, Lomachenko toyed and destroyed a fighter who had an EVEN FIGHT with Oscar Valdez. That is saying something. The last fighter to toy with their opponents like this as if they were nothing, were Roy Jones Jr and Muhammad Ali. Remember the Nicolas Walters fight? Lomachenko was patient and invested in his gameplan, it was a BORING, LOW OUTPUT FIGHT and Walters even won either the first or second round to me, because Loma was COMMITTED TO FIGURING WALTERS OUT. Lomachenko ONLY STARTED toying ONCE HE FIGURED WALTERS OUT. Even then, he wasn't excessive. When we see Lomachenko in there with Mikey Garcia, Lomachenko is going to RESPECT Mikey the way he respected Walters. Anyway, the Mikey fight will be Lomachenko's 'come out' party. The Weight - I read one comment about Marriaga being the smaller man, barely! Lomachenko has fought bigger men his whole career (and amateur career especially). He has the frame of a 128lber. - Loma weighs 138lbs on fight night, not exactly big for a 130lber! - Lomachenko only moved up because everyone ducked him at 126lbs. Note: None of what I wrote is opinion other than having the opinion that Loma beats Mikey. This content is protected
Loma most likely stops Mikey. People on youtube videos and comments are saying Mikey is too big and very technical thus will beat Loma. Loma needs to chase that fight ASAP because everyone will literally start believing he's probably the best ever after that fight.
solid analysis i'm pretty sure the nasty cut under his right eye was from a head but, that was the worst of the damage to his face that said, i agree, he does seem to get cut easily; when i saw his face in the post fight, i was surprised, because i didn't recall Marriage landing enough shots to do that damage. the fact that it was an RTD is to me, significant. Loma landed more than 40 power punches in Rd 7 if that's not enough to break an opponent's will, that fact the landed just under half of the power punches he threw in that round, would likely do it. bottom like, it seem to me, once Loma reads his opponent, which he does very quickly, it's over--he knows it and so does his opponent.
That's the ultimate bottom line. Boxers fear three things in Loma: 1. Loma can force them to corner-retire 2. If they don't retire, Loma will eventually hurt his opponent enough that they may be 'stopped' by ref 3. If they're not stopped, Loma will eventually land the KO With regards to being marked up, people only need to type in 'Lomachenko post-fight' on google to see it for themselves.
Lomo is just one bad mofo He is so tight with his skills that it is amazing to watch him box. I also enjoy Bud Crawford as he too is one that makes others look like amatures inside the ring.
The motive for those antics are between wanting to please the crowed or to please his own ego. Which one takes prominence only Chenko knows. Or maybe it's 50/50.
While I can understand the crticism behind the showboating, I view it as a fighter maximizing their platform. Loma understands that this is an entertainment business in a way I wish the Cuban guys did. Build one group of fans that wants to see you win, and another that wants to see you get KTFO'd, and you doubled your audience. It's working. That's right out of Ali and Floyd's playbook. Just don't get Nate Campbell'd in the process, because that infamy doesn't die lol
I would add that Lomas chin was again tested vs a big puncher, Marriaga landed a big right hand at the end of the first or the second round( I dont remember). Loma didnt even blink and that punch carried big power.
I saw Loma playing with a very defensive fighter in Marriaga for 5 rounds. When he decided to turn it up in round 6, he beat marriaga up so bad that the corner stops it at 7.
I seem to remember Morales toying with his lower opposition. Guy flat out toyed with people letting them get free shots in at times, brawling for no particular reason other than to just laugh at them and show off his chin. And would often times just decide when to end a fight. He toyed with Espadas in the rematch. He toyed with Velardez. Toying with low opposition when you are operating on a very high level has been done before. But I guess that depends on what you define as "toying" with the opponent.
Many on those hater channels said GRJ aka ''the Fastest hands in boxing'' would expose that boy. #Sauna When he failed they lit up the Bat-signal and summoned the Axe-Man They said Axe-Man was gonna chop that boy up and expose that hype #inactivity Fire up the Bat-Signal.. where that Cuban gnome at? #Lomaducking Now Mikey is these Broner fans new saviour, the solution for the Loma problem, the one who they're praying will extinguish his threat
Lol These Loma fights are fun aren't they? The usual suspects get stirred up like a hornets nest right after he fights. I like seeing how triggered/shook they get when they witness this phenom embarrass world class boxers in a way their boy never did. And just think... we have 8-10 more years of this
