Would Jimmy Young have been one of marciano s hardest fights ?

    So do I. Young, if he sets his mind to it and comes in with the right attitude, would take rocky all the way. Marciano would win on aggression alone but he's not having it easy. If he can go the distance with foreman, then yes he could do it for sure.

    Fair enough, but he was taken the distance by a aging Charles. Charles that had been fighting forever even at that point. While I'm not saying I rate young above Charles, I think he does just as well against rocky. He would certainly do a lot better than some of marciano s opponents.

    The likes of Rocky Marciano and Joe Frazier would be too much for Jimmy Young because of their tremendous work rate, stamina and aggressiveness. Young did well against hard punchers with a low work rate or stamina issues such as George Foreman, Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers.

    If he did better as well as Charles he'd also be doing better than Moore and Walcott.

    Moore, Walcott, Charles, ageing all, but as talented and wily a trio of boxers who have ever lived. Boxing's weird, so Young could do better than these guys but I wouldn't be betting on it.

    Marciano had way more ring smarts than did Foreman at the point when he fought Young. I don't think Young could tie up Rocky's arms....did anyone ever do that? Not a good comparison IMO.

    It was a miracle or a testament to Charles's toughness and spirit that he went the full 15 rounds. Incredible. The whole fight was tough and then the 15th round was hellacious as Marciano threw everything to get him out of there.
    I can't see Young doing the 15 with his prefered style. Charles boxed smart but went to war with Marciano, putting some serious hurt on him.
    Young's just going to defend, defend, defend, and land a few counters. That would probably get him through a 10-rounder, but those extra 5 rounds are an eternity against Marciano's style and strengths.

    That's my take anyway.

    In agreement. Those three are absolute
    Legend's, would never put Jimmy Young in the same category. Rock s well above him to. But like you mentioned, boxing s strange sometimes and a guy comes along that really shouldn't be as big a problem as he is. Little bit like Norton for ALI.
