It has been suggested on here that Smith ducked Dirrell and maybe even the prospect of fighting Benavidez. Now it's been confirmed that had Eubank not jumped into the SM tournament then he too would have been able to fight Benavidez for the WBC belt. If he beats Yildirim and then drops out the tournament, surely that would be absolute proof he and his team avoid the real dangerous big super middleweights?
Probably. I do hate fighters ducking but I understand sometimes, Benavidez is an unknown yet he's a huge threat so I can see why they wouldn't want to face him just yet. I'd probably have him favourite if he was in the tournament, GGG uses him a lot for sparring and has done since he was 15 years of age, this tells me he must give GGG very good work.
Benavidez could very well be the best fighter at SMW, time will tell. Look at what he did to Porky compared to DeGale. I'm not surprised Dirrell ducked him, he would have been savagely KO'd.
benevidez is the best fighter at smw in my opinion maybe only rameriz could comepete with him. If h was in the super tournament I think he would run thru it quiet easy. callum smith could maybe give him a fight .
Smith didn't duck Dirrell, Dirrell dicked him about numerous times with the contract by chopping and changing dates and venues even after Smith had already signed, taking on a knockout tournament to avoid annoying diva behaviour is not ducking IMO. And Eubank would only have got the shot against Benavidez after Dirrell pulled out (because Dirrell is above Eubank in the WBC rankings) but by that time Eubank was already signed up for the WBSS. So no, Eubank didn't duck Benavidez either because he had no way of knowing that Dirrell would pull out and leave Benavidez without an opponent. I have no doubt in my mind that Eubank would duck Benavidez, but you can't definitively say that he did because Eubank had already been booked into the WBSS for a month by the time the Benavidez opportunity actually presented itself.
Eubank sr dodged Roy Jones, James Toney and Mike McCallum, he seems to have taught the method of fighting the best British fighters maybe Europeans and dodging the worlds best, all the Americans Eubank fought were crap.
As far as I can see the only person that can be considered "ducking" Benavidez in this case whole sorry scenario is Dirrell. You also have to question why Dirrell, Benevidez and also Ramirez have ducked fighting in the WBSS.
I'm reluctant to put much stock in Benavidez, yet. Too many parallels with his brother. He does look more durable but also looks a lot rougher around the edges. I thought Jose was a nailed-on star in the making so I'm biased but cognizant of him looking absolutely brilliant on the way up, sparring (and holding his own) with a prime Pacquiao but ultimately looking subpar when the level of competition rose. Stylistically he'd mesh well with Eubank, that's a cracking fight. Yildirim's the same sort of unknown quantity but unlike Benavidez the risk brings the potential reward of 2 star making fights with british rivals. I'd suggest that's a more likely reason to enter the comp than to avoid Benavidez - the same reason any suggestion that he'd drop out after the first fight makes little sense.
Smith is just pure hype, all that time Eddie was spouting about smith will be wbc champ , then he enters this tourney, smiths packing glass, gallaghers gym is doing down
