Who will be remembered as the greater fighter: Pacquiao or Marquez

Head to head, Marquez was better in my opinion even though Pac was the greater fighter. I think Marquez legitimately won more rounds than Pac. Plus KTFO 6. That's why Marquez is Pac's pappy.

 

Let me follow up with this, trying to be as fair as I can.

Pac's resume edges it if you remove his own name from JMM's list. But considering the condition of a few of Pac's name opponents, there really isn't that big a difference. Pacquiao did better at welterweight whereas JMM got the better scalps at lightweight. Pacquiao's resume at the lower feather & super-feather weights is slightly better (he wasn't ducked due to high risk/low reward) but I gave JMM the slight edge in their first 2 fights and more definitely in their 3rd.

 

JMM did not lose convincingly to Bradley, it was a split decision and many people scored it for JMM as well even if not an outright majority. This was also at the end of his career in a weight class he didn't really belong in. Bradley was given credit in many rounds for simply not getting clocked after what he did in the Provodnikov fight.

JMM is great for beating Pac and Barrera and Casamayor and Salido and cleaning out lighteweight while Pac moved up to fight bigger but more faded names. This is not a Norton-Ali comparison, terrible.

 

You forgot to add Sasakul (Pac did campaign at 112) and Marquez II.

 

If I wanted to I could keep adding names for both but they wouldn't make much difference.

I didn't score Marquez 2 for Pac. 7-5 JMM.

 

Sasakul is a huge win considering it was for the Lineal Flyweight championship of the world and he was an in his prime and respected good fighter. Pacquiao won Marquez II and it was no robbery at all. Most media cards actually had Pacquiao winning. Regardless you only count unnoficial wins if they were robberies. That was not a robbery. And Pac Marquez I was a draw.

Going off of wins Marquez's two best wins were against faded legends. And then after this his resume takes a hard dive.

I would not include John either. Most had JMM winning, but it was no grotesque robbery.

 

As I said, I could include a lot more "good fighters" and champions in their prime for both but they're not tipping the scale either way. That win is definitely not "huge".

I only pay attention to my scores when evaluating wins and losses. I didn't have Pacquiao winning, I'm not going to count them as wins just because someone else did.

I'm not arrogant enough to take away an official win from a fighter that is not recognized by an overwhelming majority of the media as a grotesque robbery. But that's just me and how I operate. And anytime you beat a fighter of Sasakul's caliber it's a "huge" win. Maybe not huge in the sense of a TKO of a 2003 version of Barrera. But hell, that could be the best win of the last 30 years. That's how ****ing amazing Pacquiao's straight ass kicking of Barrera was. Last time the boxing world saw a more incredible performance was when Hagler absolutely destroyed Thomas Hearns.

 

I'm mexican,, and IMO there is no comparison, Pac by landslide (the 3rd fight between them was high robbery, tough).
Simply his run at welterweight is miles better than anything of JMM.

 

Manny Pacquiao has to be remembered as the historically greater fighter. Better wins in every weight class across the board.

Pacquiao is a lot greater than JMM. He's the World Champion in 6 different weight classes.
