Carrying on the current Tony Galento theme, who wins this battle between the big wide left hooker and the big tall left hooker?

I'm not saying it wouldn't happen ,but why so definite, Buddy Baer stopped Galento.

In doing so Buddy might well have surpassed Cooneys career accomplishments, by beating a currently ranked fighter.

I mean ranked on the day that he beat them.

So you're saying Galento or Bud Baer beating someone that was in a ranking list more than 75 years ago means that he beats Cooney in a matchup?

No, but it means that they moved into the last crucial zone, where Cooney dropped the ball.

That zone is a meat grinder in any era.

    It is the last 1%.

What it means, is that Cooney probably doesn't beat them, unless you can justify his era being much better.

Why so many stupid Tony Galento threads recently? The guy was a fat no talent joke. Even in his own pitiful era. Cooney was overrated but would still knock lard ball Galento out in the first.

    Because Galento overachieved.

    That makes him interesting.

    Cooney underachieved.

    That makes him less interesting.

Yes. GALENTO HAD A GREAT CHIN. cowardly Cooney was glass thinned. TONY TOOK THE BEST OF max Bear for a while. COONEY GETS THUMBED, LACED ROUGHED UP AND UNTOIMATELY KO D IN ONE BRUTAL ROUND. BLAMES HIS MANAGERS AND THEN HIS MOM FOR NOT THUMBING HIM WHEN HE WAS A KID TO GET READY FOR BOXING THEN GOES HOME AND SNORTS UP BLOW BY THE POUND WHILE TELLING HIMSELF HER WAS JUST MISTREATED PROFESSIONALLY AND ITS NOT HIS FAULT. WAKE UP YOU BUMS, COONEY WAS A GUTLESS, CHINA CHINNED BUM

No it doesn't. With a underachiever like Cooney you are always wondering what he could have achieved and if he only did this and did that so there's plenty that people want to discuss about him. With Galento you're think yeah he did alright for a short fat guy who fought like someone that was picked out from a police lineup but that's about it.

Galento was a feared puncher in his time. If he connects on Cooneys suspect chin it's over. Alternatively Galento was tough enough to take punishment and still land the big one.

    Exactly.

Galento is somebody who shouldn't have been successful on paper, but somehow he was.
