Regarding the Ortiz/Bong Squad fight

i can smell this already. i'd rather take a poll on which bum he'd fight on a week's notice instead

This fight is going down, and I take Option E. I expect Ortiz to show his class and put Wilder away. It's the first dangerous fight Bum Squad has had and I don't think he's going to enjoy it.

If Wilder rises above his recent performances and beats Ortiz, then so be it. I will tip my hat to him.

 

There's a REASON Wilder's management even took this fight. While I expect him to shatter Wilder's fragile glass mandible - hell, a stiff breeze could do the trick - Ortiz is old and overrated, so it's not a slam dunk either.

If Wilder's team does go through with the fight, it's because they think Ortiz is beatable - and he may be. If Wilder happens to win, it says far more about how limited Ortiz is than it undoes everything we know about Wilder.

This noted, as old and limited as Ortiz is, the available evidence would suggest that he annihilates Wilder with the first solid shot landed.

this is how it plays out.

Ortiz outboxes Wilder for the first 4-5 rounds and at that point, Wilder begins to panic after his corner tells him he's down on the cards. When this happens, Wilder goes for broke & starts windmilling like he did to Washington but only difference is Ortiz will see Wilder's telegraphed shots, time him and unload a vicious uppercut on Wilder as he falls on his own shots.

Lights out Wilder!

This is a fight I want to see. Just think of the Washington fight. Then think of an Ortiz/Wilder fight.

 

To be fair, Wilder looked especially awful against Washington.

If that Wilder shows up, Ortiz will annihilate him.

But I think he can do a bit better. It might even be a good fight.

 

To be equally fair, how did you think Ortiz looked in his last outing?

Come on guys Ortiz, isn't that good at all and his passport age isn't real age.

 

Did you see him against Malik Scott?

If that Ortiz shows up, how do you rate his chances?

 

Malik is a bit awkward. Ortiz looked kinda slow but I mean, he dropped him a ton of times.

I just feel that Ortiz has the power and accuracy to splatter Wilder. Wilder tee'd off on guys like Duhaupas because they have no punch.

I can see that you are intimating that this fight may be closer than we think, and you may be right.

 

I tend to think Ortiz early or Wilder late right now. Haven't really locked in and studied or anything, but I do believe Wilder carries his power late and Ortiz looks to me to get sloppy as a fight wears on, so we'll see.

I was initially responding to the idea that 'if the Wilder who fought Washington shows up, Ortiz will squash him" ... when Ortiz didn't look too sharp last time I saw him, either.

Also think Ortiz may lose some snap if he has to be VADA tested as he can't juice. Might look and fight a bit more his age.
