Those are maybe Roy's 10th and 11th best wins, which in modern boxing are better than ANYONE else's 9th and 10th best wins. For comparison if you look at the 11th best wins for Roberto Duran or Julio Chavez probably the 2nd and 3rd deepest resumes in modern boxing you get names like Mario Martinez and Luigi Minchillo. Heck for Roy you go down to his 15th best win and you get solid comp like Merqui Sosa or Lou Del Valle who are infinitely better than the 15th best win of Duran or Chavez
Duran's 9th and 10th best win are guys like pipino Cuevas and saoul mamby so very comparable to jones. His 11th is probably someone like Kobayashi so yes very close to jones.
How about Greb and Langford. I would argue Loughran into the top 10, but not for greatest ever...I would probably slide Foster off the list of greatest and add him to the next rung. Just my take
No worries. I wouldn't hold up Spinks as an example of Qawi potentially struggling with speed here tho. Spinks was a big light heavyweight with height and reach and unlimited ability really. He also possessed ENORMOUS power which was established early which posed it as a threat for the rest of the fight. On top of all this master trainer Eddie Futch devised a glorious gameplan which negated a lot of Qawi's strengths. Lots of left hands, jabs, hooks off the jab, doubling up the lefts, moving to the right consistently instead of the left, he had it all going on. I think Qawi's style and strengths if anything would put him in decent stead vs a slickster. He cuts the ring well, is aggressive, has good stamina, takes a great punch, has good power and works the body well. He also counter punches superbly. Personally i think Qawi would be a step too far at 175, which is certainly no criticism.
The problem for Qawi is even when he's got Roy cornered, Roy's resistance to body punches was unbelievable. Opponents would tee off to the body on Roy and he never even got the slightest bit effected he would just push your head down let you punch yourself out and when you took a break and Roy came back with spectacular combos and after that plays out once or twice you're pretty much finished.
I really can't see Jones stopping Qawi and tbh i can't see Qawi pounding away on his body having no affect. Qawi alternated as well. Could be wrong.
Even though he's not top 3 in terms of resume, in terms of H2H, I'd favor prime Foster over any light heavy, except for probably Charles.
Show me one fight where Roy seemed effected by Body punchers. If you rewatch his fights a lot you have seen the situation of him cornered or against the ropes with a guy tee off on Roy's body and Roy exploding out of the corner with insane combos.
Show me one fight where Jones fought anyone as good as Qawi at 175. Qawi is on a different level to anyone Roy ever fought at 175. It's a different ballgame. Jones isn't in the conversation (thread title) for me. His resume pales in comparison to numerous others and he never beat a top shelf opponent at 175.
Polar opposite as fighters but Virgil Hill ranks higher than Qawi all time at LHW. Reggie Johnson is extremely underrated and P4P ranks equal or higher than Qawi although he did most of his work below 175
Lol yeah split a home and home when both were fat, past prime and barely gave a phuck. Those fights could not possibly be less relevant
Hill would not blow wind up Qawi's rear port. He was comfortably beaten by Hearns at 175 for heavens sake. Qawi is so much better than Hill and that's no disrespect to Hill who is a very good fighter. Reggie Johnson does not rank with or above Qawi.
