What no one is talking about: Canelo's Preparation Opponent Wise

    Do you guys think Canelo's preparation from an opponent standpoint does him any favors in the ring against Golovkin?

    Seriously, he is now facing not just his first middleweight test, but the best middleweight in the division and a top P4P fighter. (I don't count Chavez, that fight was a farce).

    I always felt Canelo should have fought a live middleweight before GGG. Stevens, Lemieux, Jacobs, Quillin, anybody before Golovkin. But instead, he fought Amir Khan (a chinny 147lber), Liam Smith (an untested JMW) and Chavez Jr (walking garbage).

    Canelo is stepping into unfamiliar territory in an unfamiliar division with one of the best when he could've gone prepared himself against a live middleweight with middleweight power and size.

    Could this play a factor in the fight? Did Canelo or Golden Boy do him a disservice here? I really think this could come back to bite him this Saturday.

    Chavez would have been good prep had he pressed but he barely threw a bunch.

    I think stylistically Canelo is well prepared but maybe not physically. Bigger sparring partners would help mitigate that though.

    I'm sure Canelo and Oscar are well aware of the risks, they only mention them in their interviews.

    Canelo will be the bigger guy in the ring... I'm actually going to be shocked if he makes weight.

    They've been well aware of the risk of facing the best middleweight since 1 1/2 years ago. Why didn't Golden Boy put him in a testable middleweight rather than money fights that weren't true competition nor preparation?

    Then again, Liam Smith was neither. Not sure what he was for. I mean, honestly?

    I have been talking about it. Were Liam Smith and Khan good preparation for Golovkin, or for 160 at all?

    The answer is no of course.

    That doesn't change the fact he hasn't faced a true middleweight. Amir Khan looked bigger than Canelo on weigh-in, his body seemed to gain all of the added weight well , but he still jumped up in right against the best JMW without history of being tested in that division. I just feel like GBP dropped the ball when it comes to this.

    They obviously felt they didn't need to fight subpar comp at MW. Who would they fight? Lemieux? lol

    The Liam Smith fight put Canelo in a very well spot at MW. Becoming the WBO JrMW champion gives Canelo options, one of them was the opportunity to move up to MW as the WBO's #1 Contender.

    Being the #1 WBO contender gave him power bargaining power against GGG in the event GGG requested more money or else fight BJ.

    If he have fought any of the top 160 contenders, he could have a loss and there won't be any super fight.
    So in that sense his promoter is doing the right thing. Also Canelo will be fresh and there is a genuine concern that GGG could be worn out by age and tough challenges.

    Canelo should have fought Lemieux. Lemiuex has maybe 80% of GGG's power. Would have been a good litmus test.
