The biggest flaw the commentating team at HBO has instead of describing the action, they often give opinions and color the fights. On any given night, you can tell when Kellerman is waxing lyrically in the pro Ward camp and being anti Kovalev. The tendency for Kellerman to favor the slick boxer was again apparent Saturday night, it was obvious he was in the pro Alvarez camp and anti Golovkin. I don't think there will ever be a moment in time when Roy Jones doesn't salivate over a Terrence Crawford performance, but if you have watched Jones, or anyone on the broadcast its easy to tell who they are rooting for. The telecasts should be a lot more objective. Their biases show a lack of professionalism and it hurts the broadcast.
This is why I've preferred Showtime commentary for some time now. Mauro's not great, but the team knows how to call the action without letting their personal biases interfere too much. I also prefer Malinaggi over Roy Jones by a considerable margin.
I agree. It's become to obvious. Jim calls out phantom shots and of course, lederman is trash. I suggest a new lineup.
HBO's commentary team is a disgrace... They were paid to swing the fight wide over to Floyd... After the first round, Lampley goes "Already Pacquiao looks crestfallen..." LOL!
I have often been of the opinion that the more a bout resembles a street fight the better it is, but I also have a healthy appreciation for a fighter who can side step a crude mauler and make him pay with ruthless combos until the opponent is a bloody pulp. I can also be filled with glee when a Marciano type comes in throwing cobblestones and makes short work of some guy running or holding to survive. I can see the merit in the art of the sport but not at the sacrifice of the guy making the fight coming forward and landing shots. That is what is lost nowadays. Had the judging criteria of today been used back in the day, Ali would have won the 1st Frazier fight and Duran would have lost to Leonard in Montreal.
Kellerman is too busy trying to wax poetic about some obvious point in boxing as if he's trying to transcend the job of boxing commentary and become the next Damon Runyon .
HBO commentators are extremely biased........................Max made me sick, Roid Jones is also biased as hell, then Lampley to finally make a person puke! They are so conceited that they think they can tell the fans who is winning the fight not matter how one-sided...................They need to go.................
