First thing they need to get rid of is day before weigh in. The weigh in should take place the afternoon of the fight. This will keep guys fighting closer to their natural weight and keep them from an unfair rehydration weight advantage. Id put fights back to 15 rounds. I know this isnt a popular thing to do and likely wouldnt happen but if you look at the numbers im sure you wouldnt find a huge decrease in boxing brain injuries since they cut down to 12 rounds. Id take the power away from the promotors to pick the judge and referee for the fight. Id also switch to open scoring. When we watch any sporting event we all know the score as the event unfolds enough of this surprise crap. Id put each judges name and score on the score board after every round. After 6 rounds if there is a huge discrepancy in
You must be a sadist. The 2 things you mention there were implemented for safety reasons. Too many guys were dying during rds 13 14 and 15 and too manys guys were dying from same day weigh ins when they didn't have time to rehydrate. Open scoring is no good when the way a judge scores a fight can be influenced by knowing how the other judges have scored previous rds and boxers who knows they have an unsaleable lead shutting down and surviving. Promoters don't select officials commissions do.
Same day weigh in is good, but for safety purposes I'd suggest a two day weigh in, as in you weigh in two consecutive days. That would limit dehydration and rehydration since you can't cut massive amounts two days in a row.
The weight of a fight day is a good idea many "cheaters" will have to fight in their natural weight. Open scoring will kill show and remove any intrigue.
I'd just do the weigh-in before they have to step foot in the ring to fight. Get rid of all the rehydrators, and missed weight BS and let two guys weigh the same, and see who is the best. Like a spot-on 160lb Jacobs won't survive a spot-on 160lb GGG Its pretty odd calling a 160lb fight a MW fight when both are weighing 170lb + when they finally meet.
This is the way we grew up doing it in the street. Loved those rules. No rounds, no judges, till somebody quits or gets koed. Linebackers were my fight of choice. I made those rules because when we did rounds you would get people that would quit and the tell everyone they won. Id be like no muthafuka you gassed and were about to get koed and quit.
Haha not to say I haven't had a few of those myself, there is a difference between a few guys in the street (we preferred a field or grassy area) and two top level boxers. A normal person knows when they are done. A high level pro will fight to the death given the opportunity and right set of circumstances. How many fights where have we seen a boxer beg their corner not to stop the fight when it's clear they are getting destroyed. One bad corner means one dead fighter more often than not.
oh ya, i get it. We had alot of fun times. I was right older then alot of kids in my neighborhood but we would all hold pads and find people at school that thought the could beat us. I was arrogant about whopping football players and took offense to anybody who had zero boxing background that thought they could whoop any of my buddies. We would be training 6 weeks prior....who even knows if the opponents had bags. **** we were hitting mitts, heavybag, running before school, doing sprints. It was pretty unfair but people gotta learn their lesson. I beat two local linebackers i was 6 ft 165 ad both these cats were roided and 215-225. These fights lasted 9mins and 12 mins. I put these cats down with bodyshots and beats these cats faces all up. Nobody would box me in my neighborhood. I had to train kids and get glory from that. My pops found out i was doing that and made me do amatuers. Said we were gonna get them sued. hahahaha
