Monzon by clear UD unless Canelo get's a gift which is not beyond the realms possibility knowing his luck.
I take issue with people thinking Monzon would stop Canelo. I feel GGG is a decently more powerful puncher than Monzon. If Canelo could eat this shot https://i.imgur.com/h4Qhzvy.mp4 with no problem from GGG I have a hard time seeing Monzon being able to land any harder or cleaner. That said Monzon jabs him to pieces in an 8-4 or 9-3 decision, assuming it 12 rounds and not 15. If it's 15 I see a TKO as an outside possibility. Canelo might gas hard in the last 3 and Monzon who is undeniably proven as a 15 round fighter could concieveably finish him on his feet. I doubt it though, Monzon by UD.
Monzon by UD. There's bound to be rounds where the counter punching and movement of Canelo causes issues, as there was against Golovkin, but Monzon should be able to pound out a decision behind his jab. Although with Canelo you never what the judges will see. When he counters they love counter punching but when he's the aggressor they love that as well so it's hard to say what they'll vote for here.
GGG was continually landing his jab vs Canelo. Monzon's was quicker and even more ruthless. Carlos sticks that shotgun in his face all night and all day. Carlos was a mean mother, so I can see him punishing a backpedalling Canelo. To be fair Canelo is very strong and he sold me on his defence vs GGG when on the ropes. I dont think he gets stopped but a KD maybe late could happen but its a lop sided win for Monzon. Canelo gets eaten up by that jab and his output decreases slowly each round as he cant counter Carlos's constant jab and crisp right hands that ping off his head.
As good as Canelo is,I see very few middleweights besting Monzon at his best. Canelo is not one of them. However he's good and durable enough to take Carlos the distance.
I assume we are talking about a prime Carlos Monzon not a 35 year old version which would be needed for Canelo to run an skirt to the distance. Monzon by a TKO IN 12
Monzon, prior to '73 would have stopped Canelo within 10...easily...if not a ko, then a tko. He would have effectively shut down Alvarez and pounded him tih the jab....constantly with the jab, and would have timed him for the right. After '73, it would have been more of an attrition type of affair, with Canelo's eyes swollen and shut, being out thought and aud maneuvered. Monzon would have taken the stamina impaired Alvarez out to sea in those last 3 rounds...Monzon had unlimited stamina and the last 3 rounds of a 15 rounder were always his familiar territory, when he would turn it up and turn it on. Canelo wouldn't make it to the end of 15, let's put it that way.
