Some people will believe it and some wont but if you read his testimony before the senate subcomittee he says that he grew so despondant over being the #1 contender for so long without a title shot that every so often he would underperform to try entice marquee fighters to fight him. He testified that this bit him in the ass against cecil hudson when he did just enough to win (so he thought) but the judges voted against him. He said he did this in about a dozen fights. It gels with the overall psychology/style he employed in the ring as he was well known for playing possum. He would often feign that he was hurt or exhausted, stumble back against the ropes and lure his opponent in. As the opponent unloaded, trying to stop Jake he would tire at which point Jake would explode off the ropes with a furious rally. Nowhere is this in better evidence than his rematch with Dauthille where he looks all in only to come back and stop Dauthille after luring him in.

I haven't watched much of LaMotta, but I'm starting to like him a lot. That'a the type of fighter I want to watch.

Toney was supposed to be an old school fighter, Miller did a good job imo

I like him as a fighter. As a person he seemed likeable. But obviously his actions were disgusting

You should read his autobiography Raging Bull. Jake was a complex guy, and did some bad things.
