I know many will be tempted to say "Louis" without thinking about it. But consider the possibilities for a minute. Tyson at that time still would be the best opponent Louis faced in terms of having the combination of size, speed, technical skill, chin and punching power. The thing was that Tyson at that point was starting to neglect his defense and combination punching. So he'd still have been a dangerous opponent for Louis.

On the other hand, Louis will be able to tag Tyson that much easier because Tyson isn't using his head movement and would be there to be hit. For instance, Tyson in 88 would have had a lot easier time with Ruddock than he did in 1991. And Ruddock hit him with many more clean shots than he would have under Rooney.

Who takes it and how long does it last?

Since I pick Joe Louis to beat a prime 86-87 Tyson I see no reason why he wouldn't also beat a 91 Tyson

Tyson totally wastes Louis. Louis never gets a chance to get into the fight. He is stopped after 2-3 knockdowns.

Both are equal in many terms, but one area they aren't is the whiskers... Tyson wrecks him. Bad.

As a huge fan of Iron Mike, I'd be rooting for him but give him no chance whatsoever.

Only if Louis' camp kept sending the most appealing and willing and hard-working Japanese hookers to totally drain Tyson of all his strength and violence do I see an opportunity for a Louis win.

Tyson only needs to be as good as Buddy Baer or Galento to score a knockdown... Check!

I admit to being a fool, but even with this diminished version of Tyson, I have a hard time envisioning Louis winning.

Later tonight I'll feel just as strongly about Louis' chances...

I think amateur 15 year old Tyson gives more than Louis could handle even in a loss MAYBE? Even fight too both are about 200 pounds and Mike would be much more frightening than 230 Galento who floored Louis wouldn't he?Tyson himself at 15 years old would look older than prime Louis.

Louis wouldn't see rnd 3 against Tyson at any year when he matured into that 220 punching machine get real ppl,Tyson in 1991 was stillon point and would be far too much here, maybe Tyson in when he was 40 and fought a exhibition match with sanders would lose...again MAYBE! ...lol

Most likely outcome is an early Tyson ko, imo.

Lois doesnt have douglas' combination of range, movement and size to beat tyson from outside nor holyfield's "ward/hopkins type" mauling/spoiling tactics to hit tyson without getting hit back. Tysons footwork wasnt as fluent and head movement not as elusive as it was under rooney but he was still conditioned for 12 rounds, both mentally and physically tough and offensively dangerous and versatile in 91. Tyson eats a good amount of leather but knocks louis out inside 6 rounds.

How about prime Tyson 1940 vs. a 1991 Joe Louis?
Sure, let's put a prime 1940's Joe into a time machine and transport him to 1991 vs. Tyson. I would agree, Mike may have made mince meat out of him. Eras, eras, eras!!
How about putting either of the Klit brothers into the same time machine and send them back to 1920 to face Firpo? Wouldn't that be an exciting 'pier 6 brawl'?!!
You see my point, wait...you don't...
