Don't make me sad, now. I think Golovkin has lost a step, but you make it sound like he's fallen down a flight of them. He looked the fresher at the end of the Canelo fight tbh. Maybe what hes got to do is close the distance and maul Canelo on the inside with those short little shots he wrecked Ouma with.
He would have had points taken off for going to the body. Canelos team also asked the ref to not let ggg do any of his hooks to the head. You can hear Canelos team instructing the ref what not to allow in the dressing room before the fight. GGG just cared about getting paid I'm disappointed with him.
I don't think he can do any better in the rematch. I think he was right to not target the body at this stage, he'd of got countered to heavily. Ouma was a long time ago now too bro !
Im presuming he was wary of the lightening fast and heavy handed counters that were coming back at him. I dont think he threw that many at Jacobs either. These two have probably been the 2 toughest fights of his pro career. Jacobs was massive and is big and rangy and heavy handed with it, Canelo is a top drawer elite Boxer. Its such a big part of his arsenal it was a shame to see it near abandoned in these fights but the answer must lend itself to the level of his opposition its not something you would think to dismiss if you didnt have to.
Good observation, Golovkin' forte isn't infighting. Canelo's combinations at close quarters are much crisper than Golovkin's, plus Canelo throws a mean uppercut which Canelo was looking to land early in their fight. If Golovkin would have invested to the body, it would mean he would have to bend over and become susceptible to get hit by that upper. Golovkin imo sensed that and refrained from going to the body. The body work was done by Canelo and it payed dividends late, wearing down Golovkin and winning the late rounds on all three cards.
Canelo couldn't deal with Golovkins jab. Never needed to step out of first gear. Bodyshots don't come in until 3rd gear.
It didn't make a lot of sense to me either. But Canelo did anchor his right elbow to his ribs most of the fight and no doubt would have been looking to counter should GGG have gone there with his favoured left rip.
Canelo being the faster puncher would've countered the left hook to the body with solid right hands all day long..It was the right tactics from GGG for a fighter with Canelo's counter punching skills
canelo has a massive body, it would have been a waste going down there if it didnt stop him. instead ggg opted to discourage canelo by hitting him in the face (do you know how much that hurts)?
