Was it the bottle or was something in the "smelling salts" in pryor vs arguello

Any drug taken orally usually takes half an hour or more to take effect. Especially during a fight when the blood is in the muscles and digestion slows down(fight or flight vs rest and digest)

Therefore it wouldnt have made sense to put stimulants in the water in the pryor arguello fight or atleast it couldnt have energized pryor that fast(he drank from the bottle right before he knocked arguello out).
Considering how pryor ended up becoming addicted to cocaine, could there have been cocaine in the smelling salt container?

Notice how panama lewis wipes pryors nose after administering the smelling salts in between rounds right before the knockout

Rumours are it was some medication for asthma that opens the lungs up thus allowing in more oxygen.

probably the bottle.I wouldn't have thought much about the one I mixed but Panama Lewis saying it means something was up. I hate to say it. He was not a great man

Pryor should've been DQ'd plain and simple. You can hear him say... the other bottle, the black one. He admitted it wasn't a water bottle, so anything other than water wasn't on the up and up.

    "The one I mixed".

Pryor was hit and hit hard the round before, drank from the magic bottle, and koed Alexis the next round. Came out like he was fighting in round one.

    Fishy.

So explain the 2nd fight. He stopped him even earlier than the 1st, though everyone was focused and looking for the "magic bottle. Look, Arguello was, and is an ATG. And deserves to be ranked higher than Pryor on the list of pound for pound all time greats. He was simply not the better Jr. Welterweight. That simple. It doesn't diminish what Arguello accomplished yrs prior. And it doesn't diminish what Pryor accomplished on those nights...

Yes @Perry but like i said in the original post, something you drink wont take effect in 1-2 minutes. It has to get to the stomach, get digested, get absorbed into the bloodstream and then pass the blood brain barrier. All these processes take time especially when youre physically active at the moment and all your blood is in your muscles not your digestive system. There was definitely something in the bottle and he was probably on something that night but things dont completely add up

"When the day is long, and you want to run on, COCAINE."

Watch the you tube clip. Pryor is gassed and taking big shots in the 13th round.

He is fed by the black bottle. He bolts out of his corner with renewed vigor and can't miss a punch, pummeling Arguello into semi-conscious submission.

Even discounting what we know about Panama Lewis, it would be highly suspect just watching the video.

Yes, there was some sort of illegal stimulant in that bottle.

But, the smelling salts could have been rigged, as well.

Look, I am not a big fan of either Pryor or Arguello.

To me, from a neutral viewpoint, it looks like Lewis was up to some shenanigans.

The damage Pryor inflicted on Arguello at the end of the first fight could have diminished Arguello's ability from then on. The second fight was a gradual beatdown and less competitive than the first fight, by a long shot.

To me it doesn't matter if it had time to take affect or not, it simply was an illegal move, and that should be that.

Lewis probably used something illegal, but not what everyone thinks.

That´s putting it too nicely. he was involved in that tampered gloves issue with billy collins and resto. personally, i think the term "human garbage" is too nice a term for him.

Arguello was asking Pryor for many years after when they saw each other what was in the bottle.
