I dunno. Villaflor, Hernandez (in the latter's backyard) x2 Mgxaji, Yoshio were all serviceable scalps to have on a resume. Plus, a SD loss to the criminally underrated Marcel is nothing to be ashamed of. Serrano may have been vulnerable and had a style that wasn't aesthetically pleasing, but like, say, Gianfranco Rosi, he did pretty well for himself with what he had.
It was a split decision (and there's no extant video I know of) but every account I've read says that old flatnose dominated him and that Explosivo gave Marcel a much better fight next time out in his swansong.
Anyway, on the list, I've got Curry, Arbachakov, Morales for sure. I'd lean toward Calderon and Happy Lora as my next picks, but not 100 percent sure on those.
My bad IB as I misread Vitali You are correct as Vinny was the original Gatti Too bad more folks don't know him. This task of selecting only 5 is going to be tough IMO
Yes...But it was Marcel. He was dominating most everyone at 130lbs at that point. Make no mistake, the fact that Marcel isn't in the IBHOF yet as about as egregious an oversight that has occurred since its inception.
Fair point. Weird that he isn't even on the ballot while a victim of his is (while another is already in)
Yes, I think having anyone else go in with Him would just sully His day. El Terrible should only go in alone.
1. Erik Morales 2. Michael Moorer 3. Cris Eubank 4. Vitali Klitschko 5. Julian Jackson Curry and Lora could also be in there, 2 of the most highly skilled from that group, just lost some fights I think they weren't supposed too.
Hey, give the nomination committee a break. They're just internationally renowned and decorated boxing writers, isn't like they bear the burden of being 'experts or anything..
I've been a supporter for his inclusion into the HOF for a long time. Can't see why so many have been vehemently opposed to it. Especially considering how low the current standard is - he should be a shoe in.
