Is Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev going to be a flop?

    Personally I think this whole event is going to be a massive flop. Eddie Hearn has been posting #80,000 on all his instagram posts etc but a quick look on stubhub shows there are still hundred of official tickets for sale and all the resale tickets are going close to ticket face value which suggests to me that the arena will likely have a lot of empty seats come fight night.

    I think this is for a few reasons:
    1. Cardiff is not like London in transport respects, there is no overnight tube system running and all the trains leaving Cardiff finish around 11 O'clock which is likely close to when the main event will occur. So people are either having to drive and pay extortionate prices to park and not drink, or leave before the main event.

    2. Again Cardiff unlike London doesn't have the same mass number of hotels available and all the hotels have been massively inflated to £1,000 + per night, so while you may have a £40 ticket it's going to cost close to £1000 just to stay for the main event and have a drink

    3. AJ in a previous interview has stated that he feels the undercard is good enough to justify the PPV without Dillian Whyte on the undercard. I disagree, and am not particularly interested in many of the undercard fights and believe many others may feel the same. AJ has stated in the past he wants to become a billionaire and I don't believe he wants to lose out on millions of pounds by making a big match up for Whyte on the undercard, which I think the card needs to get PPV buys.

    I do believe that AJ could have sold out a wembley or O2 like arena in London with a slightly improved undercard, but with a Whyte Breazeale fight looking unlikely now and the above issues too, I don't think Cardiff will make a feasible venue and think this fight might struggle with ticket and PPV buys.

    Me and a couple of the lads are going thank fully i booked our hotel before it was announced because hotel costs in Cardiff for that night are extortionate!

    I can see anyone thinking of buying tickets late being put off by the price and availability of hotels!

    I don't think so. The public aren't that bothered about who Joshua's fighting. They just want to see him fight.

    So long as the PPV doesn't bomb there is little issue really- that projected revenue gives Hearn an amazing amount of wriggle room.

    We are getting towards a Klitschko style for Joshua fights now- barely anything of note on the undercard with just the main event making people tune in. The only difference is the PPV element.

    Too many mugs ripe for exploitation - how many times can they be fleeced before they smell the coffee?

    Man they have put up with some real donkey shyte on Sky Box Office yet they roll up for more

    It wont,you dont understand the sheer amount of casuals who literally dont know any boxers,but have intrest in AJ because of his big muscles and attraction,It will get at least 600k buys.I know girls who've never watched a single sporting event in their lives,but wanna see Joshua because he is cute and has huge abs.

    The fact that Sky put this up at 19.95 which is only for top of the line events as they say,like May-Pac,May-Mcg,tells me along with a shite undercard,they have hit the jackpot.I wouldnt be suprised to see in 2018,ppv rising to 24.95

    Pulev is an elite HW, better than anything on either Deonkeys or Parkers resume for example.

    I dont think you can criticise this level of opponent, especially as Deonkey is never stepping up and Parker is still building himself up to a unification fight.

    Will it be a close fight. Probably not, given the miles on Pulevs clock and the fact AJ carries the significant speed, athletic and power advantage. Its going to be 7-8 rounds maximum and the fans will get their KO win highlight reel to enjoy.

    Completely agree pulev is a top fighter in the current heavyweight division and I am not criticising him as an opponent but he doesn't carry the excitement of a wilder or whyte rematch purely because there is somewhat of an unknown with the latter 2 named fighters. People know whyte will bring a good fight and I think most people want to bring an end to this wilder saga and see him koed, and these fights are potential big stadium fights. However I personally don't think pulev fight is that interesting and think it will be an early to mid fight ko won for AJ.

    However my original post was about the event flopping and I still feel people aren't going to want to spend big money on hotels etc to see this fight (whereas a whyte or wilder rematch they might) and believe he may well be boxing in front of a half empty stadium. I feel like they've taken a bit of a gamble trying to put this fight on at Cardiff stadium and it's not a mega fight so I don't think it will sell out, which is why I posed the original question of whether that would make this event a flop? In my opinion it does.

    You are spot on mate - Pudding Pulev is Zero threat and this is a shocking fight for the fans.

    Whilst I do like AJ and do enjoy the hype surrounding him, the money he demands and his oppenents demand make this PPV and the undercard suffer.

    The last heavyweight boxing match I really enjoyed was white Chisora that was a proper scrap between to level pros

    In fairness mandatories are always a hard sell for the PPV market.

    There is literally no chance Hearn loses money on this card even if the PPV numbers are in the low hundreds of thousands.
