I agree he took a beating off groves but GGG had him running for the hills and Murray was petrified to engage, he actually stood his ground against groves which probably made him get hit cleaner. There's a couple of guys on the groves record that took him the distance that GGG would stop easily imo, I'm just not having it that groves hits harder than GGG.
This Groves engine thing again. Yes, he doesn't half look ragged at times and looks iffy when under attack. But he's been 12 against Degale, Jack, Murray, Rebrasse (where he threw a stupid amount of punches) he was far from gassing in the 8th against Froch before he got banged. It all stems from the way the 7th to 9th went in the first Froch fight. Obviously after putting Froch down so heavily he thought he could finish him so naively threw everything at Froch. Somehow Froch survived so Groves was then in trouble after expending all his energy. Eubank on the other hand fights for 30 seconds to a minute of a round then goes for walks pretending it's an act when really he's got his mouth gaped wide open and is blatantly needing breathers. I can see why with his fast style he's getting people excited but who the hell has he fought? Look at both their cvs and it's no comparison, Eubank has ducked and hand picked nobodies. Groves has never hid away from anyone. Groves jab will be hell for Eubank and he'll get nowhere near Groves with them leaping hooks.
People who mention Groves didn't hurt Murray need to re watch because 2/3 occasions in that fight Murray was about to be kod before the bell rang. His legs were like like jelly. One occasion you can actually say Murray say something like "woah, **** me" as his legs wobble after a right I think.
The jab isnt just important in terms of scoring for Groves. using it to set up his right hand (easily the biggest shot Groves has in his arsenal) will also be the main point in his game plan in terms of attack. The problem that Groves may have is that he has decent/good footwork but as he tires it goes almost completely. If he cant keep his feet moving then Eubank becomes a huge danger to him.
Murray gave groves plenty of trouble, (although overall groves did hammer him) and cej has a lot more to offer than Murray. With a bit more speed ...a bit more power, and a higher work rate, Murray would have been really competitive against groves. Cej has al those attributes.he will certainly be confident going in against gg.
Eubanks always been a bit of a puncher. Its a change in tactics for the yildrum fight that produced the quick knockout as opposed to his usual 8 or 9 rounds of wearing opponents down. His accumulation punchings a tactic. saps the opponents round by round...but thats the goal. Hes not been looking for one punch knockouts hence why a lot of people have been questioning his power. Against yildrum he came up against a guy that came forward constantly who was bigger than him and probably stronger that him. Yildrums a decent fighter but eubanks tactics we,re absolutely spot on for it. If he fought the way he usually does...would have inevevitably ended in a tough fight that he would have won but would have been dragged into a tough one. What you ve got to do is discourage these guys from coming forward. The half power shots he throws wouldnt have been enough. You need to sit down on the shots. Boxed and moved but sat down on his punches instead of his half power shots. Big groves fan...but this is the fight i ve been dreading for a while. Still think groves might do enough to win it hes more seasoned etc. But eubank has tools that groves doesnt like tbf vice versa. George cant make the same mistake i ve seen since the froch fight. Trying to exchange on the inside. George has always been an outside fighter all day long. Starts to fall apart on the inside...he also doesnt need to be fighting inside. Diffuse the situation. Then get back to fighting on the outside. Hes actually not just a good outside fighter but a tremendous one. Keeps insisting on trying to hook with his opponent on the inside tho. If he doesnt sort it out eubank will make him pay for it with the uppercuts etc. Groves has to fight to a gameplan. Although he won convincely against chudinov. It wasnt actually a great performance. Made the same mistakes...he,d made against froch both times. First time he put too much into getting froch out of there. The second fight for the knockout he allowed froch to get inside too easy....think he was trying to hook froch for the knockout. Allowed froch too get inside far too easily. For a guy with a one two like groves. Or even either of his jab or right hand individually with the length he has shouldnt need to exchange inside at all. Made both them mistakes against chudinov. Luckily chudinov folded...but what if he never. Groves unloaded with an awful lot...but that fight would have changed for the worse if chudinov survived it. Flaws still very much alive in groves. Frustrating cause hes potentially tremendous. Great fight.
I look at the Chudinov fight as something different. Groves after the previous 2 disappointments just wanted that title badly and abandoned whatever plan they had. He hurt him and then decided he was going to get him out of there no matter what. I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that performance.
Thats pretty much how it turned out in the end. But them first two rounds tactically we,re poor from george. He needs to be more disciplined in there bearing in mind he does have flaws. Think booth kept him a little bit too disciplined but since leaving him hes went too far the other way. Hes probably a slightly more entertaining fighter for it...but it could well come back to bite him against someone like eubank. Needs to keep it long.
So... the Groves jab that he's going to have a field day against Eubank with... was he saving it for January, because it wasn't on show tonight. This is going to be a hell of a fight.
Did he need it? Cox is a clown who threw everything straight away then gassed badly and was comprehensively stopped.
Didn't get chance to use it, got swarmed a lot early on which is a credit to Cox. Still weathered the early storm by throwing smart shots - body shots, which absolutely no one seems to be giving him credit for, I don't care how fit you are, you can't put intense pressure like that and keep it up when getting hit to the body.
Really ? Thats not what i watched. Cox was a relatively inexperienced midget of a SMW, who was beating Groves to the punch and had him seriously buzzed several times. He started to get complacent and over confident, he stayed in the pocket once too often and paid the price against a proven World Class SMW with very heavy hands. Your analysis of Cox and the conclusion of the fight is absolute bollox.
