HBO productions are better but Showtime has put on better fights in recent years. Although I have to say I really liked the HBO superfly show. Al Haymon is a huge player and he doesn't touch HBO anymore it seems. . I can't stand the play by play guy for Showtime. The guy can't tell his right from his left or a hook from a straight from a jab. Max, Lederman, and Roy are a great team. If you're a boxing fan then both are a must.
I genuinely like both. I feel Showtime has better commentary, but to me HBO nails the big fight feel better.
If I could only have one it would be HBO, but occasionally subject to the individual fight, they both are fine. They both show people with gloves on hitting each other in my very own den. About half the time I turn the sound down anyway. Better fights on HBO... better value on Showtime... pick 'em!
Clearly Showtime is superior. HBO has the visual presentation I prefer. But that is it. Doesn't near make up for all their other garbage. It's been this way for near a decade now, nothing new.
It's funny to see how all over the place everyone is with their responses in this thread. As far as you saying HBO is more grimey and Showtime more colorful, I view it as the complete opposite.
Well in my defense, I didn't actually read the Opening Post. @ClassicRon is a good poster and wasn't the intended target of my rant, its just a blanket response to all those who'll take this thread in the direction threads like this always lead. As far as the Catholic/Protestant comparison, I think its spot on, since most of the partisan wackjobs take these boxing divides as seriously as a religion at times.
HBO has better presentation and camera works, also usually have bigger star fighters but Showtime usually deliver better action fights.
