Exactly, I think you captured the real spirit of the argument. I mean, Ward is soooo boring that I would rather get high and watch paint dry than watch one of his fights - or any of his fights! On the other hand, Salido has been very entertaining in a few of his fights.

I know why Ward retired - it was because he was Boring and it finally occurred to him that no one was ever going to pay to watch his fights ever again - not ever - and no good fighter was ever going to fight him again - not ever! Really, Ward utterly destroyed his career. Good! I'm glad he is gone!

 

Nobody was ever going to fight Ward due to his hometown advantages. You would need to knock him out in order to win. That guy was a bore.

Salido cheated to get the better of a technically far superior opponent in Lomachenko, it's not right but it's the only way he had a chance of winning.

Ward got outboxed in the first Kovalev fight and was losing the second until he turned it dirty. But he had to to get the win and I can accept that.

What I cannot accept with Ward is he fouls and cheats against fighter far less technical than himself. Coming up the ranks he actively fouled and cheated against journeymen.

Ward is one of the ugliest so called "technicians" in history.

He's like the 168 version of Sam Soliman.....horrendous to watch.

ward was my favourite fighter and I rate Salido highly, you guys can cry all you want but rough house and dirty tactics are a part of the sport and it’s down to the ref and the opposing fighter to even the playing field.

 

I support this view. I have always stated if you get fouled then return the FKN foul until the ref interviens.
I like Ward but compared to Salido he was 10 times more boring than normal and not as blatant with his fouls or even his urban legend little billy goat head butting tactics. Ward did lead with his head but I don't always think it was intentional.
Bottom line is foul the FKer back and don't cry to the ref

Protect yourself at all times, if the ref doesn’t do something you have to do something about it. The problem with this dirty tactic crusade is people like to use it to suit their agenda. They like Loma, Gonzalez and Kovalev so they will complain when the opponent uses his head, low blows etc. But when it happens to a fighter they care nothing about like Joseph Agbeko vs Mares, I doubt any of them cried for Agbeko. You have to be consistent or throw it all out and let the fighters protect themselves.

 

Ward could have used a tazer on Kovalev and these dumb cucks would say "protect yourself at all times" 'He should have just tazed him back'. Yet if Kovalev so much as stepped on Wards foot they would have been demanding the gas chamber.

I believe Salido is dirtier and more intentional about how he implements those tactics. Ward is dirty too but I don't necessarily think it's something he sets out to do. I think he's just a visceral fighter who takes advantage of opportunities which turn out to be fouls and illegal. He doesn't get called too much for those fouls because they are seen as flagrant
