It technically may not qualify but Trinidad/Vargas was one of my all time favorite fights. That night had everything. Knockdowns, fouls from both fighters. A devastating finish that left no doubt who the better fighter was.
Sanchez v Gomez...when Gomez found out what it felt like to be the "little guy" in the ring for once.
Gomez vs Pintor, a back and forth slugfest filled with changes in momentum and nonstop action. Truly the best of what boxing has to give.
Chavez - Rosario for me. Phone booth warfare. And how Chavez walked through those bombs that Rosario was throwing is anyone's guess.
The build up to that lightweight fight was probably as big as any Mexican/Puerto Rican fight in history. I believe that Rosario was actually the betting favourite going into that fight having devastatingly knocked out the hard headed Livingstone Bramble to become Champion again and with Chavez moving up in weight from super featherweight. Chavez though made a mockery of those prefight odds with arguably his finest career performance against Rosario.
people have made a big deal about these fights for years. I never thought much about it. To me it was one fighter against the other. My dad is a big fan of being Italian, and he loves all baseball players Italian and everything.. My favorite fighter was Hearns.
Including Mexican-Americans, it's Trinidad-Vargas. That's one of my most watched fights ever. Margarito-Cotto 1 was a hell of a fight. I really hope it was on the level. Those are my favorites that I watched live. That gives it a little extra boost to have seen it as it happened. Some others that were great would be Gomez-Pintor and Sanchez-Gomez. Sanchez-Gomez was a little one-sided, although Gomez got back in the fight after that awful first, Sanchez was always a little bit ahead IMO. But it was still a very good fight.
