Its rare. But both Hopkins and Martinez looked spectacular at 35. Even Pacquiao still had a lot left at 35. But Golovkin is slowing down. Yet he seems to have adapted a bit. These days he seems more of a boxer than a puncher and its working.
so if canelo waited but 3Gs opposition has picked better lately...then which is true? has his opponent waited or has he left picking better later?
The people claiming GGG is at his prime are the usual trolls in this forum, those are better off ignored. I disagree with you about a Golovkin of a few years ago doing better vs Jacobs and Canelo. 1. I don't think he won or drew with those guys, I think he was competitive but clearly lost to both. 2 Who's to say more aggressiveness and activity doesn't get him knocked out in either of those fights. I think experience in a tough fight with Jacobs helped Golovkin deal with what Canelo had to bring. and 3.He may not be prime, but his style is less reliant on the nuances of the game. Defensively, his defense is his offense. He's a seek and destroy type of fighter who wear out and deteriorate due to the punishment these types of fighters usually take, but in Golovkin's case, he hasn't faced the level type fighter who will inflict punishment upon home. For his age, he's relatively a fresh fighter who hasn't taken much punishment until just his last couple of fights. So if there's any decline imo, its minimal. Let me also add that fighters over 30 and beyond will usually start to lose their edge not only because the wear and tear of having been in tough fights, but they also start to get bored when they've been on top for awhile. They lose their hunger when they have already made the money and received the accolades that go with it. Let me give you two examples of fighters who fought at a very top level passed the age of 35. Bernard Hopkins- Man always fought with a chip on his shoulder, always thinking he was dirsrespected and not given the credit he deserved. That kept Hopkins hungry and fighting at a top level well into his 40's. As well, Juan Manuel Marquez fought at a very high level passed 40 years of age because like Hopkins, he was disrespected and tossed to the side. Made less of than the other two Mexicans at his weight class, Barrera and Morales. Its why Marquez the older of the 3 Mexicans stayed at the top longer. Not getting money fights and being disrespected, not getting the accolades the others were getting kept him hungry to keep going through the tough training sessions. I would say Golovkin's body is still relatively fresh, hasn't been beat up or been in many tough fights, and he most certainly hasn't received the money fights or the accolades which in turn should keep him hungry for at least a few more years.
He just fought his two best opponents of his career in a row but yes he is clearly also in decline. We'll see how he does in the rematch
Of course they ring a bell. They rang the bells of Memo and Shilstone, two of the guys who have a track record of pushing PED's on their athletes.
Well, any older than 35 and anyone will be in some type of physical decline. Nevertheless, GGG is still so strong and hits so hard that if Canelo and Jacobs don't keep running, then they will be beaten like bad little girls.
Everyone at aged 35 is on the decline Its called the ageing process. No one beats getting old and eventually dying of old age.
