He was finished, doesnt matter if physically or mentally or both. He didnt need or want any more of that lewis right hand
It was a good shot that put him down for good and he took more than enough punishment. He had no chance to win so there was not point in getting up even if he could have and unless you were inside Mike's head (you probably wouldn't want to be there) you have no way of knowing if he could have gotten up or not so no, he did not take a "dive"
Im pretty sure Tyson would have THREW the fight much sooner than eating 200 punches thrown that landed by lewis? Tyson had a great chin when focused ,he was like a bull in that fight very hard to hurt but if he couldnt get the win by rnd 3 it was over. Just about most fighters would have fell much sooner.lewis had one of the hardest hitting over hand rights in Hw history. Looking up at the ceiling lights while blood is pouring from your nose and eyes isnt exactly a sighn of weakness at round 8 either let alone taking a dive when he was walking through shots that looked like Tysons head was getting hit by cannon balls at times coming straight down on him...........you can literally see Tysons entire body shake from some of them
If by dive, you mean falling to the canvas after constant Lewis right hands and combinations, then yes, he took a dive.....down to the canvas.
It's funny how Lewis is regarded a better puncher than Buster Douglas but I can guarantee Douglas would have got that version of Tyson out of there much quicker.
Tyson was broken. He was utterly done. That's a knock out. Nothing left. There is no surrender after a beating like that or why else take so much? What do you want? So long as the guy can wipe his face whilst he's spread eagled on the canvas he has to continue? The fight was over because Lewis finished it.
Lennox beat the living $hit out him. Considering that he could have retired on his stool a few rounds earlier, the idea of Tyson taking a dive in round 8 is ridiculous.
Tyson could have continued, but at that point there was no point. He was beaten to a pulp and the beating would only get worse. Lewis knocked him down and Tyson failed to make the count, that's all there is to it.
