What in the hell happened to Duran during this fight??? Duran was normally a great fighter with a solid chin. And yet, he was just wiped out by Hearns in a very one sided, uncompetitive match up. What gives?

I could not figure this one out.

Hearn's was knocking people out all the way up to cruiserweight... He was a hellish puncher. Duran was caught just about as perfectly as one boxer can catch another here and taken out. That's not even mentioning the fact that Duran was aging, and a blown up 135 pound fighter where as Hearn's was boiled down...

Styles. And the fact that duran at 154 and above did not have the footspeed to get inside tommys reach. Tommy had the handspeed and power to make the outcome very decisive and devastating.

That KO punch, p4p, was one the fastest/most powerful in perfect technique that I have ever seen

By far. In slow-motion it is LIGHTENING! Real time? The speed on it was absolutely incredible.

Beautiful feints to the body, too. Nobody would have avoided that punch.

One of the greatest KO's and punches ever. Hearns was all wrong for Duran. His size, speed and power were never on better display than here, not even vs Cuevas.

Hearns is a bad match up for Duran to begin with. We are talking a giant discrepancy in reach and height.

Then consider Duran's age and weight, he was actually the slower and weaker man. So Duran is pretty much giving up every physical advantage against a younger faster all time great at the peak of his abilities. Greatness can only overcome so much. Duran's only real KO loss.

If you matched Duran from Palemino\Leonard I against Hearns from Leonard I\Cuevas, you might have a more competitive fight at Welter.

What shocked me was that he even got to his feet after some of those shots. Unlike the no mas fight, the guy definitely went down on his shield.

    Not too complicated

Hearns had a 5.5 height and 11 inch reach advantage.

Duran was an aggressive fighter, but did not go out all in an attempt to get inside. Hearns was able to keep Duran at the end of his punches and landed full force. Duran's chin, while very good, could not take the impact of Hearns power shots. Fight over. Very similar to the Hearns-Cuevas matchup.

It was a shockingly great perfromance by Hearns and it set the hype machine for Hagler-Hearns into overdrive.

One magazine cover: "Hagler is shaking like a leaf on a tree."

Another cover: "I'm the baddest", says Hagler. "No you're not", says Hearns.

    LOL.

I think this fight proved Tommy would beat him everytime out. What beat Duran was the speed... And Hearns was rocking him for 2 rounds. It was not just this punch. The fight was very similar to the Hearns/Cuevas.
