ESPN Dan Rafel has attempted to reach Roc Nation for clarity or simply
the opportunity to provide their version of events . And it might be a
good idea for Roc Nation rep to clear the air.
However there has been absolutely no response.
Roc Nation should be very , very , very ashamed.

Franco or any boxer would liekly be okay if they got disaster insurance. Spending roughly 6k per year on the policy and setting aside another 5-7 k in order to cover the deductible would take care of most serious health costs while avoiding the disability/Mediciad/Medicare route.

Well said. Now is Roc Nation to be blamed?? In my opinion, only partially provided they never informed their fighters on an insurance policy (which I highly doubt it from a contractual/legal perspective). If they did and the fighter wanted no part of it and signed on the dotted line then Roc Nation is not obliged to pay jack.

$6,000 is a lot of money for non-contender boxers. And where is that figure coming from? I’m sure when you lost your occupation as professional boxer, the policy price just went up.

Anyone defending Roc is probably just a Jay-Z nuthugger and if this was Top Rank would be calling Arum the scum of the earth.

It’s inexcusable for a company with that kind of capital to not cover medical expenses for their athletes. Their athletes make them money. Remember, if promotion companies don’t have anyone to promote, they aren’t making jack. Athletes could still make money without promoters (albeit less).

Why doesn’t Roc take out that supposed $6k policy on all their fighters?

It needs to be understood that a contract requires to be adhered to. If there is no insurance clause covering disability or death then Roc Nation is not required to pay a single penny. You and I do not know what options were included in the contract. Maybe Franco excluded the insurance clause thinking he could get a cheaper rate on his own, rather than getting it from Roc. Or maybe Roc didn’t offer it at all (which is inexcusable)

Just because jay z or any company that has money doesn’t mean they can dish out millions to charity; coz that’s what it is if it’s not on the contract.

The fighter, his manager, his friends and family are all exclusively to blame if they did not pursue insurance which now requires a fundraiser... and that’s a crying shame. This also shows the primitive structure of the sanctioning bodies which allow a fighter to be licensed without such needed insurance.

If a non-contender doesn’t have $6000 for insurance then he should stick to underground brawls and not professional boxing. Being poor is not an excuse to allow professional athletes to compete in a lethal sport.

The titan head of Roc Nation Sports , the rapper Jay Z carries a bigger name in
the entertainment industry than any other promoter in the entertainment
industry. However the boxing industry is built not on pop culture but on
    personal relationships.
That's is why the bulk of the dates on HBO and Showtime go to Top Rank ( Arum) ,
Golden Boy ( De La Hoya ) and Sky ( Hearn ). Yes these promoters might at
times use questionable ethnic's but they would never be as heartless as
    Roc Nation ( Jay Z) .
Not even a phone call to Daniel or his family to see he his okay !!!!

Occupation isn't listed when you get an insurance policy.

If you ever wanted to know why I always side with fighters, this is why. When you guys talk about quitting and scared, and all that ****, the above is why I don't respect your posts. One guy had the nerve to say that he signed up for this. No he didn't. It happened on the job. I'm pretty sure all of you that work have health insurance. Roc Nation is wrong if what he says is true. Dead wrong!!!

Look what Roc Nation did to help SOB Ward cheat against Kovalev! Their ref Tony Weeks made low blows legal for SOB and their judges gave SOB a decision to rob Kovalev! Roc Nation allowed Rigo to hold and hit his opponent in his last fight, then land a left hook clearly after the bell and had Bob Bennett lie about it live on HBO! Next they will try to have the referee and judges cheat for Rigo the turtle head Rigo, watch and see..............
