A real boxing fan can enjoy a technical battle (Mayweather, Rigondeaux etc...)

    I think a real boxing fan can enjoy a technical battle. Ofcourse you want to see a brawl but a technical battle is also very enjoyable... Let me know what you guys think!

    Not when that technical battle is against overmatched opponents. It is why I never enjoyed watching Mayweather fights. You knew the outcome after the first round (hell after the first minute).

    Yes I can appreciate technical battles but you need evenly matched opponents. A good technical battle would be like Leonard-Benitez or Toney-McCallum, those were truly fights about the sweet science. Not Mayweather-Guerrero, Mayweather-Berto, Mayweather-McGregor, Rigo-Agebko, etc.

    If you mean a technical battle where both fighters are trying to figure out how to hurt each other, like Duran-Leonard I or Wilfredo Gomez vs. Salvador Sanchez, then yes, I am all for it.

    But if it's with a safety first fighter just trying to make it to the end of the twelfth round so the judges can gift him a win, I watch, but I feel like those fights should be free of charge to the public.

    Agreed. In fact, I was going to say that one-sided Mayweather bouts are not the best examples for this thread. I can certainly enjoy a bunch of Mayweather clinics as supreme technical performances (with Canelo being the most conspicuous example), but the term 'battle' implies some competitive back and forth. So, in that vein;

    Outside of Larry Merchant's established bloodlust, I never understood why some fans deemed Tapia-Romero a disappointment. That was some high-level technical warfare, very stimulating to the senses to witness.

    Precisely. It’s just a way for fan girls to knock great fighters they don’t like.

    Technical battles are not just for fighters like floyd. You can still have front foot techncal battles.

    I think you confusing the word technical with defensive

    I enjoyed Fury vs Parker more than the AJ vs Takam fight.

    Problem here is that so many will not understand what it is they’re watching.
    I’m gonna enjoy it I’m sure,guess we will find out if Rigo is there to win by his output or lack of cause to compete with Lomo he’s gonna have to put some numbers out there each round

    I'm a pretty decent boxing fan. I don't pretend to love boxing as much as CST, but I like it. I don't like tag, staring contests, chess matches, or whatever the OP is selling. I don't even consider some of what those guys do boxing. A great technical battle for me is Jofre vs Harada I, Leonard vs Hearns I, JJW vs Charles, etc.

    Sugar ray Robinson, roberto Duran and now lomachenko are the finest examples of technical fighters for me because they have the balls and ability to do it on the front foot.
    I can enjoy watching floyd, rigo or sweet pea but they are too safety conscious for my liking. They are like watching F1 cars driving around Monaco at three miles an hour. Capable of amazing speeds but too afraid they might crash.

    Imagine if it was floyd fighting rigo. Neither one would initiate an exchange.
