Fight should be in the territory of Kovalev, night in the bar in the Chelyabinsk after one bottle vodka to each, and in between the rounds of a beer mug to everyone, including ref and judges.

Seriously, I asked this on Kirk's thread earlier, for all the people who thought Slava was going to give Kovalev problems and that it would go the distance, and especially the ones who said Slava would win.

WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

You should stop watching Boxing, this sport isn't for you.

(sorry drenlou, jk as far as you're concerned) :D

lol I think there's radio active leak in Chelyabinsk at the moment. I can't think of a better time for Ward to go over there lol

While I didn't post anything on this specific fight, my faith in Kovalev has never wavered, and with Ward's retirement I firmly believe he was clearly still the guy to beat. I know a lot of people fancy Beterbiev over him, and I know others (like yourself) are big on Gvozdyk, but I wouldn't favor anyone currently campaigning over Kovalev at this time.

Ward proved that Testicle punches are legal if you are American, your name is Andre Ward and you are fighting a russian.

Kovalev was the first boxer to be stopped from a shot to the testicles. Its a world first.

I was on the under 7.5 rounds. Kovalev by KO was -600, I don't understand why anyone would take that bet when the under was only -220. There was no way the fight was lasting that long. Good win for Kovalev, he's right back in the mix.

Valera was +800 but I watched his fight with Bivol and I thought there was no way he was beating Barrera. The guy just swings for the fences with his hands down by his side, I didn't think a guy as polished as Barrera would have any problems. I'm actually kind of surprised Barrera went down in the fight.

I'm guessing it will be Barrera-Kovalev next right? I think Kovalev wins that one by mid-late KO or scores a KD or two and wins a clear decision.

Not sure but he was going on about it again today.

The bit at the 3:10 mark is revealing

''In the second fight Andre knew what he had to do.. and he listened and he won the fight''

I think he slipped up there.

Exactly. The only ones “Exposed” in those fights were Ward and the corruption in the sport.

I think that's really clear. Beterbiev is too slow footed and doesn't have the outside boxing skill to stay with him, and Gvozdyk doesn't have the firepower nor overall offensive ability to give him much to worry about. Both of them would last rounds and sure force Kovalev to be careful and show more of his skillset than he had to tonight, and Beterbiev may have the chin to go the distance... but they won't win.

Bivol on the other hand is hard to say. Given his style I'm not sure we've seen the best of him, but we also can't be certain he can continue to show what he has against a better, dynamite punching opponent.

I just got done posting on another thread calling out the Beterbiev fanboys, granted I have faith in Gvozdyk, but to beat Beterbiev, he and Kovalev I've seen as 60-40, and lean Kovalev, like you, I never lost faith. Oh well, Kovalev arguably beat the best fighter/spoiler in the world last year, and in the rematch Ward had the perfect gameplan, aided by spies, a ref, and an unfocused, disillusioned, probably drunken Kovalev, and the match was still razor close at the time of the BS stoppage. And he was coming off of fighting a string of opponents its hard to look good against.

Kovalev's "downfall" is a mirage cooked up in fans heads.

Yes. You think Ward's buddy Weeks would've waved that off if that had been Ward on the receiving end of it? Of course he wouldn't. Wouldn't have got his extra paycheck of that spastic dwarf James Prince had he done so. In fact, he probably would've wound up having a nasty 'accident'

This. I've been saying, it's amazing how keen many have been to write Kovalev off after competing on even terms for an hour with a great fighter whom many guys have struggled to win a share of a round from.
