Sorry for bumping up this thread but I find boxers are listed an inch higher than they are most of the time. So keep this in mind. I don't think average for welterweight is 5ft9. It's ft 5.75 at most.

Looks like I'm a comfortable SMW. 5ft11 and currently a few pounds over the limit. Nothing I cant trim down. In fact I could probably trim down to MW but I'm almost 30 so probably a little harder!

 

Funny thing is, that a very big percentage of the top fighters per division have/had exceptional reach for their size.
Being able to hit your opponent from a distance where he can't hit you, is very underrated.
