Is Lomachenko the type of fighter to impose his size and take full advantage of being bigger

Some fighters like Antonio Margarito and Erik Morales were masters at being the bigger man and knew how to take advantage fighting a smaller guy.

But I've never seen Lomachenko impose his size before well. He's almost always the naturally smaller man in the ring. And in the times when he was actually bigger he didn't really use it. Like the Gary Russell Jr. fight.

Which kind of leads into another interesting point. Lomachenko is not a very physical fighter. He's not a machine that eats punches for breakfast and goes on and on and on without ever running out of gas. He's also not a particularly heavy hitter nor does he have a great reach. Those are the types of fighters that use size best to their advantage. Guys like Morales and Margarito who would just keep coming and coming and coming and would shake off every punch you threw like they were nothing and then launch like a 1,000 bombs. Lomachenko doesn't fight like that. He's actually the one prone to being bullied and roughed up by a less skilled fighter. See his fight against Salido.

Not saying that Lomachenko will lose here. He's the solid favorite because he's in his prime fighting a faded, smaller man. But I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't decide to walk right through Rigo and punish him.

From what i have seen - no. He uses his footwork and footspeed to get at a certain range against most fighters, midrange not so much inside or outside fighter and seems to have most trouble when he cant keep that range against his opponent and they pressure him and get inside.

    To full extend, no.
But it still counts for Loma to be bigger as Rigo's opponents, while being extremely skilled. Rigo got dropped by smaller guys, with less skills at a younger age.
I would actually be surprised if Rigo manages to make it to the final bell without getting dropped at least once.

FMJ and Loma i think are two fighters so skilled and gifted athletically and intellectually, but have also and for those reasons gotten so used to dictating the terms during a fight and where and when engagements take place in the ring they really only have trouble when someone is willing to march forward sith a high guard and absorb hell to land and engage.

He’s not that kind of boxer. But he may take more liberties if he doesn’t feel as though Rig’s power carried up with him? Loma is a finesse fighter....he’s not a bull or Mack truck inside the ring. He won’t change his stripes just because he’s the bigger man.

    Lomachenko's latest comments (today):

"I said I am going to walk through him like a tank. They are two different things. I am going to walk through him like a tank and knock him out. They are two different impressions. I am like every single fighter – going into the ring I have in my mind ‘finish the bout before all the rounds are over and to get the victory before that. There is a good possibility that the fight will end before the twelfth round. I am not promising to knock him out but I am promising to squash him."

Looks like Lomachenko's gonna apply big time pressure, which is the reason I'm going w/ Rigondeaux by TKO.

Interesting quote from Lomachenko. I didn't hear it before. Will be interesting to see him play the role of stalker and punisher.

BIG mistake following a pin point sharp counter puncher around to impose will.

Not in the mauling, manhandling, ragdolling sense that springs immediately to mind when we think of fighters imposing their size on smaller men.

However, Lomachenko is a pressure fighter of sorts. Any pressure he's able to successfully exert on Rigondeaux will be intensified by the physical strength and size he holds over him. That can make the difference between a fighter surviving sticky moments and finding answers or simply being overwhelmed.

Aside from that, not having to cut to 126 and meet Rigo in the middle will give Lomachenko optimum vigor in the contest. He's comfy at 130 and knows he can provide his best form there. Rigondeaux, meanwhile, will be carrying significantly more muscle than he's used to carrying in the ring, no acclimation period. The benefits Loma enjoys as a result of this fight being at 130lb aren't only limited to size advantage per se.
