Don't forget the Sanchez fight where Gomez was moving up in weight and still failed to make weight. He had to lose substantial weight fast which would not have overly helped him.
The thread seems to be diverging into two separate categories - fighters who always came prepared for a fight in their best physical condition, and those with great stamina in the ring. As an example of the former, Wlad has always been a dedicated trainer and has looked in great physical condition for his fights. His stamina though has been an achilles heel in some of his losses. Holyfield is another - he never had an ounce of fat on him even into his mid 40s, but his stamina could be very inconsistent once he moved to heavyweight. In contrast, Calzaghe didn't always have the best preparation and his training methods were certainly unconventional, but he had freakish natural fitness and stamina was never an issue. Old Foreman didn't look like someone who was in great shape, but he was so relaxed in the ring that he had better stamina than the younger sculpted version.
Juan Manuel Marquez. He was so insane about his conditioning that he drank his own urine, that's sick.
Golota was in awful shape when he fought Adamek, he was 256lbs, well over his fighting weight and it showed.
