I appreciate that he’s not fought a decent level of opponent yet, but his skills are there for all to see. He’s fantastic to watch. Exceptional movement, range and shot selection. He looks like he can dig a bit too....what do others think?
Passes the eye test so far but until he's in with some sort of recogniseable fighter I'm not getting on the train
I have always said I worry about how tough an amateur career he had. The Irish spar all the time and I just wonder when he goes up through the levels could everything catch up on him? However you can't not like him as a fighter, great to watch.
Im Irish and obviously I would love to see MC succeed. Thats the good part. Now: Not having a row with you or anything...but actually 20 one thing that worrries me about Conlan is his lack of a punch. He actually lacks pop - big time IMO. These guys hes been fighting have all been much smaller men too. So there is even less excuse for him not flattening them. As he moves up the levels he will face better, but also bigger and stronger men. He could turn out to be a bit of a billy joe saunders where every fight is a distance fight. This will add greatly to wear and tear and miles on the clock etc etc. I am undecided about Conlon - Im not convinced about him. I fear he could turn out to be vulnerable as he steps up. His defence/guard is poor too IMO, and better guys wont find him hard to hit - they might find him hard to miss! I dunno - I just havent got the same confidence in MC that my countrymen seem to have. Yes indeed he looks the part - but there is 'something' lacking I feel...... Also I suspect he might be vulnerable to the body too....
Indeed he could. Particularly with luck/careful matchmaking/cherrypicking weak beltholders etc etc He will almost certainly get to fight for at least one belt in his career. Equally though he could be badly exposed by the 'wrong' tough opponent at any time....at least thats a lingering concern I have anyway....its just a gut feeling I have about him. They managed to manouvre his far less talented brother Jamie into a world title fight vs Ancajas - and Jamie was brutally, horribly, exposed. Mick is better than Jamie - but I cant shake the feeling I will see him exposed badly one day too.
Agree 100%,, personaly i'm not sold on him , he's been hand fed and carried up till now , so like you said , SHOULD of been putting these fellas away ,, myself i think he's a b+ fighter who's been competing against c- and d+ fighters , he'll get schooled when he meets the A+ guys ,.
I like the look of him tbh though hard to fully judge how good he is until I see if he gains more power by sitting down on punches more, and till I see how he takes a shot. Except for that looks excellent
I have to agree that I feel someone out there could totally outclass him. I was chatting to another boxer a while back who said they saw a lot of flaws in his game. Presumably his defence. Either way he is good to watch
I too think there is something not quite there with mick conlan, he got a lot of exposure for that alleged robbery at the olympics but if I'm honest I think his biggest flaw could well be his coaching team. I just don't rate Danny vaughn as a coach and think his ties to mtk/mgm are more of who you know and not what you know. can anyone tell me a fighter that Danny has improved? I can think of lots of boxers that he has coached and imo he hasn't improved any of them. brad saunders tom stalker Stephen simmons iain butcher jamie conlan derry Mathews there is 6 right off the top of y head that he has coached and not improved in any way.
Ok that is true ....but he has been boxing at top amateur level for years. Top am level is above beginner pro level obviously. He's got a high energy style that looks good over 3-4-6 rounds. But the acid test for me wil be when he goes 12 hard rounds. With a tough opponent. If he can cope with a tough opponent over the championship distance then I will have more confidence in him. There are two main areas where I see weaknesses in mick conlan, He lacks power and his defence is poor. People may not agree but it's my opinion anyway. When he tires in longer fights he could be in trouble. Time will tell.
he is much better than Jamie and also guided by Top Rank so it is a totally different set-up. But with Jamie it was good work to get him a shot at a world title IMO; even if it didnt go his way.
all that is true and his management team and trainer are also aware that they're his main 2 weaknesses. i haven't seen Saturday nights fight yet but they said they have been working on his defence.
