    That’s cool.

Not sure what that has to do with my point, but would love to hear more about it all the same!

    Other way around.

The author says, and I quote: “The plain fact is that Don ****ell is not too much of a fighter...”

One of his few supporting arguments is: “nor does he have any of the evasive footwork and headwork of a Walcott or Charles when they were at their best.”

I’m pretty sure I’m interpreting what he means to convey properly.

Resorting to insults and false accusations when you are the one who got it wrong is not a nice thing to do.

This article, in my honest assessment, is a glib editorial analysis mixed in with some good first hand reporting here and there. Good for it’s time I suppose.

Why don’t you figure out if Braddock hit Louis in the chest first, and then come back to that after? Shall we wait a few more decades troll?

Why don't you admit that I corrected my post several months ago ? Or are you always going to tell lies about it?

I don't have to admit it, I already acknowledged it.

As of yesterday, you continue to promote the idea that "we can't be sure" if the punch landed on the head.
Let us know when you figure it out then.

Must be tough loading those clunky 8mm reels onto a projector every time you want to see a little 5 second clip. How do you even rewind those things? Must be cumbersome. Screw it, if it's too much work, you can always crack open a book and hear what one ringside observer said about it.

Not only cant you interpret what you see in a fight you cant disseminate what you read in a post!
I typed in black and white that, judging from the film I cannot be certain where the punch landed and several others, much to your annoyance agreed with me!
I also stated that having read Louis' statement about the punch I am quite prepared to accept it was indeed a punch to the chest.Ive repeated this 4 times now.
I also mentioned that I later bought the collection on DVD but you don't want that to be so because it would interfere with your puerile narrative wouldn't it?

But you keep on lying through your teeth about it in your childish petulance because your silly thread about it backfired spectacularly on you didn't it! My word have you just mugged yourself yet again!

I can interpret the fact that you meant to say head here instead of chest.

Maybe because every time your view points are challenged you tell the same dogged story of all the 8mm films you own?

Oh goody, the DVD collection. You're finally caught up to the year 2002.
We were worried about you there.

Just out of morbid curiosity, I'd love to see a screen cap of your DVD quality Joe Louis fights. The quality can range dramatically depending on the seller and the source.

No need to worry about me ,I'm not the one who made a thread trying to call in to account the competence of another poster only to find several others agreed with him! OUCH!:eaea:

I think the article is harsh on Don. The author fails to mention cockell was on a long wining streak and had beat two ranked yanks in kid Matheus(thrice) and lastraza and was the number 2 ranked heavyweight in the world!
He wanted it to sound like he was a useless fat Britain that was only good enough to be champion of the empire. Which says little for British heavyweights.
Insulting to the British public to say the least.
Also I don't think Rocky was anymore dirty in this fight than any other defence of his title.
I guess it was relevant however as the British press complained about the fouls so vehemently.
To be fair to the writer Don did look bad in this fight but so did Rocky im that he couldn't get him out of there quickly.
This fight was definitely not a classic and I guess the guy had to write about something.

C*ckell was a brave guy and a decent light heavyweight before he succumbed to glandular fever which f*cked up his metabolism. But he was never really more than a domestic level heavyweight.Marciano had burst Mathews hyped bubble and ruined Lastarza. C*ckell was feasting on leftovers, if his chance had come against better contenders he wouldn't have been in the frame at all. Marciano was dirty in that fight, low blows, butting, hitting after the bell ,and while C*ckell was down, but it was hardly unique,he did it against Lastarza too .
The referee never warned him but he did warn C*ckell!.
Bottom line C*ckell wouldn't have beaten Rocky anyway.

I had a brief conversation with C*ckell and mentioned that fight, pretty tactless of me in hindsight. He made no mention of Rocky's fouls ,but did say he was not the same fighter afterwards.
    Nice man C*ckell.
