That's amazing that you met him! Did he have anything else to say about Rocky? or how Marciano would do against Valdes?

 

He didn't say that much but I rather got the impression he sort of liked or at least respected Rocky, he certainly had no criticism to make about him.

His book also tainted the value of Carnera. The first great super heavyweight.

 

Shulberg was a life long fan of boxing and as a Jew I don't think you could call him a racist. He was the one who actually arrested Leni Riefenstahl. The only thing I dislike about Shulberg was that he named names during the shameful witchhunts of the 50's.

 

Today in this world of terrible Political correctness an article like this would not be allowed. It’s so anti British. Can you imagine a writer being allowed to be so derogatory toward another nation?

I'd say it could be called anti British heavyweights,but to be fair , up to the present we haven't had that much to shout about in that department have we?

 

A country dosnt have to produce world champions in order for its heavyweights to be given respect. I don’t think there’s any call for the mocking tone here. Aside from Richard Dunn all of the British challengers were as worthy as any contender. They all beat ranked Americans, paid their dues and deserved more from Schulberg. A part time manager himself who should have known better.

 

Personally I think it's pretty much ado about nothing.

 

Quite. Britain has produced more quality heavyweights than any country bar the USA. Why not mock Mexico or Zanzibar?

Israel hadn't ever been big on boxing and there have been quite a few good Jewish heavies.

 

Mexicans as a race don't usually run to the heavyweight size.Zanzibar never had a boxing programme .the UK is the home of boxing, spot the difference?

 

Not that many. Max Baer was more Scots-German than anything else. I think his father was part Jewish and you are only a full Jew if your mother is Jewish. The Baers had a Scottish mother.

Challengers for the world heavyweight title who were full practicing Jews is probably zero.
