Personally, I have no problem with what Crawford had to say. I think his point is that everyone needs to pump the breaks a little bit. Yes, Loma looks otherwordly right now. His foot movement, his head movement, his awkward angles, his level of comfort in the ring regardless of what his opponent has to offer - it's all extremely impressive. The fact of the matter, however, is that we're talking about a fighter with 11 pro fights and likely no victories over a future hall of famer (perhaps Rigo will get there, but his professional career has been one marred by inactivity and few notable wins outside of Nonito Donaire).

Do I think Loma will end up being one of the greatest fighters (if not the greatest) of his generation? Most likely, yes. He is an incredibly gifted fighter that reminds me of Floyd in one major way - he doesn't need a gameplan because he can and will adapt to whatever the opponent brings to the table. He makes it look effortless in there - much the same way that Floyd made it look effortless when he destroyed Genaro Hernandez and Diego Corrales (among others) at 130.

Bottom line, it would have been a tremendous fight between the two of them. To say either fighter "wins easy" is nothing short of fanboyism. I've bet against Floyd in my mind too many times throughout his career, always thinking, "Oh, finally, THIS fighter is the one that has the perfect formula to beat Floyd." First we thought it would be De La Hoya with his size advantage. Then we thought it would be Hatton with his quickness and pressure style. Then we thought it would be Mosley with his ring IQ and deceptive power. Then we thought it would be Pacquiao because of his hand speed, awkward angles, and smothering style. Every single time he proved us wrong, so I have to take that into account before thinking to myself, "Ah, yes, Loma is finally the guy with the right formula and skillset." He's got as good a formula (or better) than anyone else Floyd would have faced, but to say he would undoubtedly completely overwhelm Floyd is short-sighted at best.

Loma still has a ways to go, and I look forward to watching him continue to dominate opponents in the ring while making it look easy (which inevitably leads to fans saying, "He hasn't fought anyone," but I've come to expect that).
