Julius Long 18-20 probably enjoying the best run of his career - just over the last two years or so he gave Browne and Ugonoh all they could handle, popped Justin Whitehead's cherry and upset Bowie Tupou.

    Nope.

Rénald is actually still in the black, and, believe it or not, despite flirting with the .500 line throughout his career, never has actually reached it (let alone crossed into the red)

Excellent shout, though. Le Lion is very easy to root for, and if he skids his way to a neg rec, he'll definitely be near the top of my list.

I always liked Jason Barnett. That was someone who boxed only for fun. He had a small win streak where he upset John Poore and took Erik The Viking Leander's zero. Because of it, he got a bit too much attention and ridicoulusly boxed Mike Perez, Rudenko, Lepai and Luis Ortiz in rapid succession. Didn't make it out rund 2 in any of those bouts.
I think he said that it was easier to get fight if you are about 0.5... And that he tried to milk an illegal blow from Perez to get the win. He also apparently lost due to equipment failure one but I don't know any details about that one.

Another one for the future - Galen Brown will be below 0.5 in a little while...

Good thread and some great posts in here. Good stuff. I'll give other fighters that fight a shout as they come to mind.

Roberto Valenzuela 69-76-2 (56 KOs) and counting

He's 44 now. I saw him fight Dorin Spivey way back in the day. He has that Duran story that follows him around, saying he knocked out a horse when he was young. With him, you're either going to get knocked out or knock him out.

He only recently met the criteria for this thread, having lost his last 10.

A fighter who's longevity makes no sense to me. He wasn't that good like 15 whatever years ago! Did the talent pool go that far backwards, or what.

Tiger Ted Lowery just missed, going 70-68-10 (46 KOs)

Lowery fought around the light heavyweight weight for most of his career that ranged from 1939 to 1955. Lowery died in 2010, at the ripe old age of 90, a fixture at gyms around the CT area.

Lowery is best remembered for going 20 rounds with Rocky Marciano, losing two 10 round decisions. However, their first fight is debated, being an experienced vet outboxed Marciano, who was fighting his 20th fight. A couple years later Marciano beat Lowery more clearly. Lowery also drew one and won one against Billy Fox.

Bizarre thought... If he and Peter rematched today some 11 1/2 years later - you'd surely have to favor Long this time around.

Absolutely, and I find that "only in boxing" levels of bizarre.

I watched Zarate vs Zamora earlier today and it's hilarious in its own way. In the first round some guy in his underwear runs into the ring only to moments later be violently thrown over the ropes by a very serious group of police men that surround him in moments. Then they drag him off like the Gestapo. People are setting off explosives in the crowd throughout the 4 round slugfest. It's surreal, place was like the Wild West back then.

It's like the late 70's telling the 90's fan man incident it isn't **** when it comes to weirdness before it ever even happened.

Lovely post. He's one of the few boxers, along with Willie Pep, that came out of this state in it's Golden Age (I live in CT, lol) that really make you proud to live here.

What's funny is I forgot to add a major part, I went to school with her great granddaughter. I found out around the time I was in high school because I was always reading something about boxing, so she told me. I then pestered her over the next few years about him, lol.
