His balance and mechanics were incredible for his age. That jab-straight right to the body looked really really good.
Louis was one of those heavies who matured quickly. His accuracy to me was always excellent vs. stationary target, yet as we know, he struggled vs. movement in the ring. Its no accident he looks very poor on the speed bag, even for a guy who probably had a dozen fights under his belt at age 20.
My great grandparents got married this year, my great grandma was actually a few years younger than Joe Louis....this was a long time ago
I misunderstood the title for a video that's twenty years old not a Joe that's twenty years old. I was ready to see an old Joe Louis look-a-like or misdated video or some such.
Jack Blackburn looks like he could still go a few rounds. How the hell did he ever weigh in at lightweight?
So did I; I was going to say that Louis has amazing skills for someone who has been dead for 35 years. 6'1" in shoes according to that tape.
If standing next to someone ever told anyone anything it's that people don't tell the truth about their height! Anyway, he's got shoes on. But most boxers quote their heights in shoes, I suppose. There's normally an inch exaggeration with most boxers I have met. In pro wrestling the rule is 2 inches unless you're so tall no one can tell how tall you are. eg Andre the Giant, 6'11" claiming to be 7'4". Or if you're in Britain, Giant Haystacks was around 6'5" and was billed at 6'11"
