Lewis is a horrible horrible Match for holmes. Unlike ali, holmes would not have this huge advantage in hands speed and footwork against lewis, holmes was more static and he traded several times with punchers and he could be hurt and knocked out too. If Reinaldo snipes, mike weaver, earnie shavers could catch holmes and hurt him seriously then i have no doubt about the much bigger and better lewis ending the job.spoon gave holmes all he could handle... Lewis was better than spoon in everything. You now mention the jab mercer vs holmes and mercer vs lewis etc blahblah.. . holmes had absolutely nothing to beat lewis with. Styles

Big fan of both men and have them next to each other in my top ten.

In a boxing match ending up on the cards it's a very tough one to call. Both excellent boxers with a winning mentality.

I think a massive edge goes with Lewis if he is successful landing right hands or uppercuts. We know Larry could be vulnerable to a right hand. Has could Lewis some might say. But Larry ain't dropping Lewis like Lennox could him. I can visualise a possibility of Lewis overpowering him at some stage if I think about it.

A pick em fight between two elite heavies where Lewis has more ways to win.

Those picking Lenni need to have their heads and agenda's examined. Holmes was extremely tough, it took a prime Tyson 25-30 plus punches to put away a faded Holmes, Lenni is not going to have an easy time. Holmes is by far the better and speedier boxer. Even if Lewis catches him with his right hand and if Larry goes down, Holmes has shown many times in his career that he can get up and recover from bad situations like a boss and then go on to win fights. Holmes has the faster hands, he could fire a double to triple jab, he also had a very good right hand, he was very fast on his legs and was a very good tactician and boxer, much better than Lewis.

If Lewis does not get a lucky punch and manages to finish Holmes off in the first 4 rounds, he will be badly outboxed for the remainder of the fight and i have high confidence Larry can get a decision

I think you're overrating Lewis a bit and underrating Holmes. I think it's fair to raise past performances against common opposition for comparison. I also think Lewis wasn't quite as dominant as people seem to remember him being. I think it's a damn close fight.

Lennox lewis was by far more dominant than holmes and lewis fought much better and bigger guys than holmes did. Holmes had competitive fights with a lot of guys that lewis would have simply killed. Stylistically and physically lewis is all wrong for Holmes. Big and strong like hell, a hell of right hand, skilled, patient, smart, longer reach than him.30 pounds of muscle heavier... I respect your point of view but it is like i see this fight

Holmes would not have a great advantage in hand speed and footwork against Lewis? Are you high?

Maybe "great advantage" in your terms would have to mean that Holmes move so much faster as to introduce relativistic effects and finish the fight the day before it began.

As a previous poster said, I also have them right next to each other in my top ten. Right now I'll take Holmes by a 8-7 or 7-5 type close decision.

Holmes was also never starched like an over protected girl like Lenni was either.

Holmes has better stamina than Lewis. If Lewis doesn't get you out of there early, he will struggle in the later rounds and does not have what it takes to go 15 rounds.

Lewis for me and pretty clearly.

He has the power, skills and dimensions to pose problems for Holmes that he'd never have seen before. If things go pear-shaped and Holmes manages to technically outbox Lewis, which he could possibly do, LL has the option of turning it into a slugfest. Holmes was no featherfist, but neither did he have the sort of concussive power that guys like McCall and Rahman had. Lewis on the other hand could hit with the best of them, and he had about 25lb on Holmes.

And, to put a finer point on it, yes, Lewis blew hot and cold, but I don't see him losing to Michael Spinks once, nevermind twice.
