Stiverne exited the rankings in April 2017 at number 8 following his points loss to Wilder and then he beat #42 ranked Derric Rossy. His inactivity and non compliance was taken into account and his pre-fight ranking had dropped to 14 by the time he fought Wilder the second time. He has since dropped to 31 following his slaughter. I think it is more of a case that the heavyweights are not that great at the moment past the first 7 or 8 fighters.

Povetkin, 16-1 vs the top 50. I'd say he's proven enough.

That's a weird way to do ranking with 2 years inactivity and certainly taking into account how he "beat" Rossy before exiting.
I understand that inactive bigger names get at least some kind of virtual ranking, but almost everyone following HW boxing knew that Stiverne was shot even before not fighting for 2 years.

Hindsight proves that #14 pre-fight was too high, I agree he looked shot and looked as if it was all just a pay day. We won't get every ranking right and each fighter will deal with two years inactivity differently. We probably got him about right at #31 now although it will be interesting to see if he fights again. I conceed to you that you are more right but it is hard to find an objective formula for situations like this. We will never get every fighter in the exact position that everyone thinks. We did drop him from 8 to 14 for the inactivity, the quality of the rest of the division past 10 is extremely thin in other years he may have gone to 20.

Where do you think Deontay Wilder should be ranked?
