People from Galento's time and prior to the internet recognized Galento for what he was. A threat to any heavyweight he fought, not an atg by any means but he was a force to be reckoned with just like most top contenders of any era. It's only on this forum that Galento seems to be an unskilled fat ass drunk. He might be a fat ass drunk but he was by no means unskilled.

I don't understand why Ali saying that Joe Louis didn't have a good footwork. I mean for me it's obvious that he has at least a good one. He didn't moved gracefully like Ali but he was always in perfect situation to throw deadly combinations.

What are you guys think about this ?

I suppose its because ali considered footwork from movers like robinson to be good(which is why probably modeled his style after him)where as footwork from guys like louis looked less impressive to him

Probably because Louis had a difficult time closing distance and getting his offense going against mobile opponents who gave him decent lateral movement. One of his weaknesses.

Curiously, Galento was one of the earlier admirers of Ali, and predicted that he would defeat Sonny Liston!

I pick david tua to destroy galento brutally in a one sided fashion... Galento was a joke and he would have been a complete joke in the 70s and 90s. In fact galento was a fat drunk with a hard but predictable left hook

That ali was right. His footwork was pretty static and slow

To me he doesn't even really look out of shape. He kind of looks like a power lifter.

Watch the "cult" movie "AKA Cassius Clay" 1970 with Ali & Cus Damato analyzing film of the "old time" fighters. Ali says: "Joe Louis whup me....slow, shuffling Joe Louis whup me?...why I would etc... Then Cus Damato & Ali square off....and Ali is jabbing and moving around....and then 70 year old Cus, slips Ali's jab, and moves right in on him. Ali never really says much about it. But obviously Joe Frazier must have seen the movie...because a year later in 1971, the FOTC occurred.

Right. Lots of great quotes are out there regarding the Movie, and other things that were said in real life FOTC build-up, fight, & post-fight.
