I think Quintana at least deserved the benefit of a count after the 2nd KD. I dont think he looked in more trouble than Marquez against Pacquiao in that first round, and remember what happened them. Not a bad stoppage, but why not check if Q could beat the count and make a decision after that. It was the very 1rst round after all.
With Cotto's height, being shorter than Quintana and Margo, he can make himself even smaller and making it harder for Williams to punch down at him. He would get inside on Williams for sure IMO. I know Cotto said last year he had no problem fighting Williams, when the entire bandwagon was on him after the Margo fight, saying he didn't see what the big deal was about him, that he only had height and reach advantages. Tells me he would know what to do to deal with him and would have no problem fighting him.
I heard Paul came in at 156 or so on the night of the fight. He came in much heavier for the first one (168?). Do you think PW struggled to make weight for the first fight which is why he didn't perform well?
It is clear now that there are two versions of Paul Williams. There is the one we saw against Pakau, Quintana1, Mitchell where he underestimates his opponent and gives up his height to try and maul them. Then there is the one we saw against Margarito, Mathysse, Quintana2 that is looking to make a statement. Keeps his distance, boxes from the outside and sits on his punches. It's gonna be very important that he keep his mindset on the latter version to stay at the top of 147. I guess I was wrong about his stamina and how it'd hold up. I thought for sure this would be his last year. But after last night I think he has a bit longer at 147. Perhaps the next Tommy Hearns nickname wasn't too far off afterall.
I don't want to see a rematch it's obvious that Williams has improved and will only beat Carlos again. What I do want is to see Williams face the Margo-Cotto winner in the fall.
Very true my friend, Ambition Def has always discredited Quintana's win over Paul Williams because Quintana beat the guy that beat his favorite fighter, he acts as if nobody can see thru him.
I like how Williams goes from a close victory to kicing Margos ass. We both know that isn't the truth. He beat a Margarito who took him lightly as ironic as that sounds. I am not a Paul Williams fan. But over time that's possible. I still pick Margarito to win a rematch. You can play the blind man but that's not my problem. Paul Williams demolished Quintana in the rematch. And he recaptured his place in the WW division with that victory. He's easily top 4 right now. And he'll be in a good position when Margarito comes calling for the rematch. :yep
I discredited the win because I saw with my own two eyes a Williams very much different from what we have seen in the past. Just like Forrest last night against Mora. You just know the guy is better than what he showed.
SO margarito took paull williams lightly and lost? paul williams took carlos quintana lightly and lost? i guess you can say the same for quintana, he took williams lightly this time and lost.
Great for Williams to come back and make a statement. I'd like to see him in there with Cotto if he can get another decent win under his belt.
Yes Margarito took Paul Williams lightly. He thought Williams would fall after a few hard shots and he didn't. Margarito stalked Williams and threw one punch at a time. That is not the Margarito we have seen recently. That is also why Margarito wanted an immediate rematch and Williams was having none of it. And it appears that Williams got bit by the same bug Margarito had in their fight. He underestimated Quintana by not training properly and not even sparring southpaws. He remedied all that in the rematch and won on a first round knockout. I think Quintana may do better in a rubber match but he gets dominated anyways. Williams on his game is a tough fight to win. Which naturally serves to credit Margarito for keeping their fight close despite underrating Williams. Oh and you only give a **** about this because Quintana was a staple victory for Cotto.
actually i dont give a **** about quintana, quintana is b level who was used as a warm up for cotto's first fight at a new weight division. doesn't change the fact that, that b level fighter DID infact beat williams even if williams won the rematch.
