Boxing just isn't a big deal in the United States. Besides Floyd and PAC, who are both retired or should be retired I can't think of any boxers that are household names in America. Wilder could become undisputed champ with knockout wins over Ortiz, Joshua, Parker, and Tyson Fury and although he would have a solid resume it wouldn't make him a household in name America.

Floyd at 33-0 wasn't even a PPV attraction until he crushed Gatti, who despite being a limited fighter at the top was a fan favorite and fun to watch and brought in the viewers. The De la Hoya fight and his appearances with WWE along with his legal troubles and collaborations with 50 Cent made him a household name.

Wilder is on his way to the top. It has taken a while but I think the destruction of Stiverne started his rise. If ( and I think that he will) knocks out Ortiz, it's a done deal. He should actually beat the brakes off or knock out Miller after that because Miller has fan appeal and I think the numbers would be pretty good, especially if they fight in New York. Then Joshua is on the menu and the mega bucks fight can take place.

Wilder is a tad underrated imo. And he's grown into a far better fighter than he was going in to BVerno I....
But the guy got flaky with those images of Wilder breaking Kobes ankles and posting up LeBron

But his TE dreams.....the 220/240 tanks on our varsity line would probably break his legs if he was out front of a bootleg or a toss.

    Newsflash everyone.

Ortiz got as glassy a jaw as Wilder.
Beating a 45 y/o in full blown roid withrawal is a solid, but unremarkable W.
Whyte woulda been a better win.

    Ruiz Jr even better.

Wilder has never fought a legit fighter in his entire career! Will he fight Old Man Ortiz? Breazeale is waiting on the side to take Ortiz' place, Breazeale qualified by getting knocked out by Joshua! He is also owned by Haymon!

This is pretty much the answer here

American fans have assumed the heavyweight division has been shitty for a long time and Wilder hasnt done anything to change anyones mind

there also wasnt a torch passing fight...floyd beat pacquiao. canelo is the new star but he lost easily to floyd. no one really took that floyd mantle. now most fans thought canelo lost to golovkin who isnt a huge star here

Plus Floyd carefully crafted an image that allowed him to polarize viewers. Those who hated him and those who cheered for him. All the while both camps admired his skill set.

Wilder on the other hand only manages to polarize between those people who feel sorry for him and those who laugh about his horrific technique. Whatever Floyd did, even his most dedicated haters never doubted his skill.
