1934 Baer vs 1988 Tyson

That's the thing. Baer had a great chin and a monstrous punch, but, Christ on a cracker, he throws punches like kids in high school. I'd have full confidence that Tyson's peekaboo is sufficient to slip that sort of incoming, and my god, he'd make Baer pay for it something horrible. Post prison Tyson is within Baer's range to have a good fight with, and tbh, even there, I'd favour Tyson.

Ruddock landed on Tyson with the same telegraphed punch over and over.

Tyson was great at slipping jabs and traditional combos, those wild weird punches can be hard to time, and its not like Baer played nice, he uses forearms, open gloves, and pushes to hide his right.

I favor Tyson on points here, but it would be hard fight.

 

Tyson was an excellent counterpuncher especially when his opponent throws one or two big shots at a time. Mike had more of a problem when he was being boxed and peppered consistently. That`s when the doubt would come into play in his mind. Physically he took a tremendous punch.

 

You must have gone to a tough school.

 

I ****ing hated high school. I was young for my class and our school was rumoured to be the "last chance" school before the reformatory. I remember getting dragged into a ring of guys during PT (when the teacher was goofing off and leaving these delinquents unattended) and having to "spar" some ape of a guy. I got punched in the chest so hard (as I was breathing in, lovely) that I was short of breath till the next day. Those ****ers should try me now.

 

Foreman would have a little better chance at beating Tyson than Max Baer did. I'd pick a 1986-1991 Tyson to beat a 70's Foreman, even in a brawl. If you replaced Ron Lyle with the Tyson who beat Ruddock, Tyson stops Foreman, without having to get off the canvas to do it. And it had nothing to do with styles, because Lyle/Foreman was a straight up brawl, plus Foreman always relied on his power so unless Lyle was making him miss and countering it's not really an issue because Foreman was landing clean punches on Lyle.

 

A 1991 Mike Tyson would still wreck Max Baer, he might get hit a little more and the fight might last longer. Plus, no way was Razor Ruddock as crude as Max Baer. Furthermore, the Ruddock fight just lets me know that Tyson's chin could stand up to being hit by Max Baer. Tyson circa 1988 pulls a demolition job on Baer. Shavers would be a better candidate to lose to Max Baer if you need a more modern heavy for him to beat.

 

Tyson never wrecked or demolished anyone who was durable and could hurt him. Lets keep the predictions reality based. Tyson wrecked fighters who couldnt hurt him.

Against Tyson, Ruddock was certainly as crude or even cruder, splitting hairs there.

Of course Tyson could stand up to being hit by Baer, but he would still be hurt and thrown off his game a bit.

Not sure why you are pulling a strawman there when I said I favored Mike. What type of hero worshipping weirdness is this, predicting Tyson to win on points is the same as predicting he loses...anything but a Tyson demolition is unacceptable? Get real.

 

Ruddock was alot more polished than Max Baer....not even close. He wasn't perfect, but give him some credit. It's a lot more than splitting hairs.

It would be a wrecking case due to Tyson landing an ungodly amount of flush shots on Max Baer. Tyson wouldn't be able to miss the wide open Max Baer if he tried. Like I said....TKO in favor of Tyson in a way that resembles the ending of Tyson/Bruno who by the way had similar power to Max Baer, but was a better technician.

And I think Max Baer may have been a formidable opponent against other fighters because of his chin and punching power, but to be honest, I've seen better technical skill when I was in high school and they used to fight in the hallway.

 

Why don't you go and look for them now?

 

Actually in my high school when they had fights in the hallway, I think I actually saw better technical skill.

You're right.....Baer utilize's the lost skill of block the jab with your chin whilst advancing in a straight line.....Tyson and Lewis could've learned a thing or 2 from this footage
