Speaking of jabs, I don't buy for one second that Golovin landed nearly double the amount of jabs that Canelo did. I counted Round 8's jabs by Canelo and I came up with between 7-13 landed jabs. (anotherwords at least 7 clearly landed jabs to the face) Compubox gave Canelo 1 landed jab in that round! OK then you take into account the live punch stats from Round 5. Remember Canelo with 15 seconds left had a 14-9 advantage in landed punches. Post-fight numbers were 18-14 Golovkin. And that 18-14 supposed "adjusted" advantage still had both fighters landing the same # of jabs (5) but with Golovkin throwing twice as many (40 jabs to 20).

Now I haven't counted all the jabs in all the rounds but you just look at the dropoff after round 7 in Canelo's jab output, it's hard to believe Canelo landed that few jabs after round 7 after being so efficient with the jab in rounds 4-7. At least in round 8 I know the numbers are way off because I counted them for myself. Golovkin surely did land more jabs overall, but he wasn't outlanding Canelo by the margin the punch stats indicate, not by a longshot. I agree with what you're saying here about how a jab is the safest punch to throw and Gennady was supposedly the power puncher, the fact that he had to use the jab so much says a lot. But still there's something wrong with these numbers. I proved this for round 8, I can't say for sure how off the other rounds were but according to compubox the jab landed numbers in rounds 2-7 were very even. Golovkin definitely landed more clean jabs in round 8, but Canelo was still landing the jab himself. It's just important to note how even the jabs were in many of the critical hard-to-score rounds like rounds 4-7 that almost everybody gave to Golovkin. Compubox had those rounds as very even in the jab department, in round 6 Compubox had Canelo out-jabbing Golovkin 7-4. I will have to also check Round 9 and Canelo's 2/18 jabs number to see if that is accurate. Round 4 Compubox has Canelo with a very high jab connect % 53.3%, by far the highest % in the fight. That was a round I gave to Canelo and I think his efficiency with the jab had a lot to do with it.

So OP is basically saying the fix is in?

Wouldn’t be too far fetched a prediction considering the first debacle.

I’m expecting a Golovkin loss as well honestly.

Hoping I’m wrong, but I think GGG is very much on the decline.

I really don’t think the Golovkin of a few years ago would’ve been so close to losing against Canelo.

I had it 7 to 5 for Golovkin in the fight. Some close rounds, so I didn't find the draw crazy. Canelo seems to be able to eat any shots Golovkin has. Alvarez will probably bring more pressure in this rematch, and I think the judges will more than likely be in his favor. So Golovkin will have to REALLY win these rounds, and not let them be close.

I don’t think the first fight is anywhere near as controversial as people make out!

Just that one scorecard tainted it. A draw was probably an even result.

I think Canelo will nick the extra round or two this time and make him the victor by UD. No controversy.

Reading some of these comments sort of reminds me of all the excuses they were coming up with weeks and months before the fight even took place. The Canelo fans were confident and cool like a cucumber leading up to the fight and were even more confident going into the rematch. Canelos got his number for sure.

Obviously, no one lands 100% of their punches.

Canelo landed 42% of his punches to GGGs 32.

Most of Canelo's were power punches.

    Let that sink

I don't know... 2 important things about this fight, Can Canelo improve his gas tank and Can Golovkin work the body more? I think ggg now realises Canelo can't hurt him, however I think Canelo was hurt a few times in the first fight but hid it very well.

Canelo didn't hide anything. He just wasn't hurt by anything Ggg threw at him.

El Pollo is counting on Oscar's judges, referee and boxing commission, the cards have already been filled out................judge Tyrd will be there to protect El Pollo. I have the fight 8 rounds to 4, Paulie had it 9 rounds to 3, Harold Lederman had it 8 rounds to 4, Nacho Beristain had Golovkin winning, the Mexican fans were booing..................El Pollo backed up when Golovkin not only walked right through El Pollo's wing punches, he ran like hell! El Pollo is counting on Oscar's corrupt officials............

One trick pony? Oh cmon man. Where was Canelo's counter to the jab? Or even Canelo's own jab?
You missed many hard shots landed by GGG. Canelo of course is MUCH faster than GGG and that was noticeable in the fight. Why didnt Canelo use his fast hands more effectively in the fight?
    Poor gas tank? Check
    Fear of GGG? Check
    GGG footwork? Check
    GGG distance? Check
    GGG countering him? Check
    GGG effective pressure? Check

Lets not forget that Canelo is a phenomenal boxer. When is the last time you seen Canelo spend 80 percent of the night backing up? I found the fight a bit boring as it was so repetitive. Canelo back pedaling with GGG following and missing with the right hand. The only fun was when they spent some time in the middle of the ring and when GGG had him against the ropes.

Lots of people underestimating GGG. He won the first fight. The crowd disagreed with the decision. Ringside writers disagreed and the PPV buyers as well.

But we all know both fighters can take advantage of their own strengths and their opponents weaknesses. In the end, it should be another good fight.

Nobody knows how the next fight is fought or judged, either.
    Speculating is mental masterbati0n.

Maybe it's because some fighters prefered to wait some years until Golovkin got older and slower.
Still Golovkin won both fights the Jacobs fight was closer but you can't get a fair decision vs Canelo there is always a suspect card in nearly every Canelo fight.

Pretty sure Oscar and Aunt Addy had a smoother interaction than this:
