Groves vs Eubank - Who've you got?

I don't know about that comment or whoever made it. But either way, your comment that he can be " easily outboxed" isn't flawless either.

I seriously doubt Eubank is an easy nights work for groves...or anyone else either...

 

It's good to see someone who doesn't rate Eubank actually say he will be beaten easily.

It's kind of pathetic when people start calling blokes like Groves an easy beat just so they don't have to give Jr credit.

Groves is an elite talent, should have gotten the nod against Jack too probably (although I still think Degale just nicked the fight against George).

Size, power, jab, foot work George is a hard man to beat!

I can't see him beating Jr at all though, I can't see him lasting 12 rounds. Jr is going to wreck him and I won't be surprised if he does it effortlessly too, although I am predicting a competitive fight before Jr takes over and stops him around 9 or 10

 

I will give Eubank all the credit if he does that but IMO he doesn't his going into a big fight with a big skillful fighter with power with to many flaws and his already been found out once because of his flaws IMO he really gets hurt this time

Going back to Senior and his shorts, man i can remember one ref actually telling him, "If a punch lands here it is ok" and made reference to his shorts being so high, you could hardly see his stomach and ribs they were so high...

 

Sr had a short torso and high hips, which made it appear his shorts were pulled up. He had quite a strange body structure.

 

Especially if Groves' stamina experiences an alarming dip in the second half of the fight.

I'll probably go back and forth as to whether or not young Christopher wins a decision or wins inside the distance; but for now I'm going Eubank KO11 -- I just think he is all wrong for Groves.

 

Eubank....this is a 50-50 fight but I just think it's his time to shine.

 

I agree with all the above post..... However everything said is based on Groves performing at full potential, which is hardly a safe bet. Eubank Jnr is still improving and has some good performances in him, with Groves we just don't know. He has seemingly been dropped and hurt many times in sparring through the years, eventually this will take its toll.

I fancy Jnr to take this on points or pull out a tko anytime in the last few rounds, simply by outworking a tired and ragged Groves.

Does his pants look like they are near his chin when you see him out and about, does he only have 2 inches of shirt showing because of a short torso....

Interesting fight, I think Groves should win the early rounds with jab, better fundamentals and a superior control of range. However, I'd be worried about Groves down the stretch. He had always shown signs of fatigue and gets drawn into wars. In fairness to him, he generally manages to do the rounds but ultimately he probably is at the end of his days at 168. Eubank is undersized in terms of the weight they walk in at, but I really don't think it will be that much of a problem. He is appears super fit and I don't think Groves will be able to push him back like many think. I see him coming into the fight after around Round 4 and starting to give Groves hell. I also think Eubank has a superb chin, never really seen him rocked and I don't think he'll be getting stopped.

The one thing for me is whether Groves can outbox him from a longer period that the early rounds. He really needs to get that jab out and follow up with straight right hands. Eubank isn't that difficult to hit but he is relentless and Groves has to box to a plan. Eubank obviously doesn't bang that hard but I still wouldn't be surprised to see him hurt Groves either, particularly late on.

Murray has a good defence...and some argue that was how he was able to trouble groves a bit late on.....because he hadn't been taking a beating all along. Eubank hasn't got murrays defence, but then again Murray has nowhere near Eubanks work rate either....

Will Eubank be taking a beating early on? His defence isn't great? And if so can groves take enough out of him early on to defuse a late surge from jr?

I supported Murray in that fight being a local lad. He took a really good hiding in that fight. Groves was picking his shots. Murray couldn’t get near him to trouble him and in the 7th, he nearly knocked him out. In the 8th, the commentators were on about whether the corner should consider stopping it. The 9th, Murray should have been stopped. He was sparked on his feet just before the bell. I think that fight took whatever Murray had left in the career tank, away.

Murray is 5”11-6 foot. I know that for definite because I’ve stood with him. Groves looked huge compared to him. Eubank is going to have to cop some big shots, because he has to get in on the inside to do his best work. Groves is very heavy handed and they will take their toll as the fight goes on. Eubank will have some joy, he’s a tough kid...but he’s going to get busted up.

 

Hi 20....thanks for that. I. Really surprised to hear Murray is 5-11 to6-0 tall. I haven't stood beside him as you have, but from photos of him with people of known height...like Macklin, GGG etc I'd have said he was about 5-9 5-10????

But groves is about 6-1 , 6-2 and 14 stone ....so he will have size over jr.

So anyway, you think Eubanks work rate and energy won't be enough. I felt groves looked uncomfortable at times against the much slower and more one paced Murray...and that is why I give Eubank a chance here. We shall see....
