If he's outgrown 160, then he certainly should move up. Was it a step back for 3G to face Jacobs? After all, he already defeated fighters with similar resume. And Jacobs, again, was merely a titlist. Never a World Champ. here's the thing, I am a fan of Danny Jacobs. I find it hard not to be, as he's a seemingly nice guy (Plus the feel good cancer story). But he's NOT a name in boxing. He's NOT a former World Champion (Again, just a titlist). Added to the fact, his resume as a pro is very thin for his age At 30 already (With two decent wins). He'll likely get a title shot no matter what, so the discussion is sort of moot. But the assumption he's a name fighter, or star, or whatever, is still absurd. His schedule of fighting hasn't helped that. He's not above fighting other top contenders, i guess, is my point.
I think his resume is a bit thin, yeah. I agree. I mean he did have a setback having cancer and he did fight a top guy earlier on in his career in Pirog and got stopped. I don't think it's his fault though and it's not like other fighters were rushing out to fight Golovkin at the time. Canelo dropped the belt and decided to fight Liam Smith then Chavez Jr. I mean he had the WBA belt which can be sold to casuals and is often marketed as a ''real world title'' when it isn't. Middleweight has picked up a bit since with a couple of new faces but around then Jacobs blitz Quillin early who drew with Andy Lee. Saunders wasn't really active at all and wasn't chomping at the bit to fight Jacobs around that time. The Mora fights were typical Al Haymon matchups due to the thin roster he had to play with. I just think he did catapult himself now to being somewhat of a ''name'' in the boxing world and has signed with Eddie Hearn. I don't think he rightly deserves a title shot at super middleweight, no. If he was offered a fight or could get a deal to fight Traux why wouldn't he take it? I mean K-9 Bundrage holding the IBF is comparable to Traux holding the IBF in some way. Did Charlo deserve a shot at K-9 Bundrage? Or was it simply because he was seen as a rising star with his brother and both him and Bundrage were ''in-house'' Haymon fighters? I mean you can go over many fighters who don't deserve certain fights,..etc.. Charlo to me needs to fight a better opponent than Heiland first to get me interested in a Jacobs vs Charlo matchup. Jacobs looked clearly bigger in his last two fights and he should move up if his body can't deal with 160 anymore. He doesn't wanna get thrown in with the sharks quickly at 168 as that's not what a good promoter would do for him. Arias was a confidence builder after losing to Golovkin. Truax vs Jacobs probably won't happen due to contractual reasons anyway with DeGale/Warren and one of the runners up or the winner of the super series might get the shot first.
Yes this,I’m not a fan of hopping divisions esp given that the Middleweight division now has got some quality. If goes up to 168 for the belt he may as well stay there. Really hope we don’t see all these middleweights avoiding each other for fear of losing,Charlo has done nothing of note yet, neither has Andrade, sure I heard Andy Lee being talked about as an opponent of Jacobs.
Not being hard on him. Boxing is a tough sport. But having cancer years ago doesn't mean you can take easy fight after easy fight, or jump to the front of the line for title shots.
Lol! I was being sarcastic. I don’t really care for Jacobs and I grew tired of the cancer survivor storyline a long time ago.
Hey man, with 18 wieight classes and four titles in each, plus continental, silver, emeritus, and all those BS titles, that's boxing nowaday.
